Looking for my first Vette for a daily driver. Settled on C6 base. I have a pretty rough bumpy 40 mile round trip commute every day. 35 miles of it is at 70mph. HWY 90 b/t Lafayette and Morgan City in south Louisiana if you are familiar. Am I dreaming that I can use the Vette? Is the F55 Mag suspension the way to go?

I was very surprised by how smooth the ride in a base vette is, especially considering how well it handles. But it's definitely not a smooth as my Honda accord. The other thing is, everyone has a different tolerance. I would recommend taking one for a test drive of your daily route

As I was writing my post, you must have been writing yours. The Jim Mero upgrade is new tuning for the mag ride shocks. Seems to be highly recommended if that's the suspension you have

I hope to be able to test drive one this coming week. I don’t know what type of tires it has on it yet. If they are run flats, how much better is the ride on regular air tires? I’ve never experienced run flats before.

risk reward… risk flat tire but reward much nicer ride imo

If you want the MRC and the Jim Mero upgrade (highly recommended), the upgrade is only compatible with the 2009-2013 MRC models. Didn't see that important information contained in the other posts.

Wow, I know that stretch of road well. It will beat you up. Having owned and driven several Corvettes in my time, I can tell you that none of them will be a smooth ride on that road. I wish it were better news, but these are sports cars and sit very low to ground. In south Louisiana that means some they will jolt you on uneven roads and potholes. IF it were me, would get another DD to do that commute and get a Vette for fun when you have the money.

I guess the obvious answer is “if I could, I would”.
No other alternate routes you can take?

It would be a shame to take a nice, tight, rattle free C6 and turn it into a rattle can. That's what traveling those kinds of roads will eventually do. I understand wanting a C6. I wouldn't want to be without mine. I tried "without" and didn't like it. But, a C6 isn't the tool for that job.

Honestly, I don't think it really matters what car or truck you drive, Hwy 90 is rough regardless. Actually, that goes for most roads in south Louisiana.
I say get the Vette and ride in style. Magnetic ride is always a good but I think you have much more options for shocks by getting a Corvette without it.
A new set of tires that ride comfortable and insulating the interior with a sound insulation kit will help tremendously. Continental or Michelin tires have a comfortable ride and great performance.
I commuted in a Saturn Sky Redline (very much a miniature Corvette in many ways) and it was comfortable for the most part.

I am from south Louisiana between Jennings and Crowley. Hwy 90 has to be one of the absolute worst roads in the entire country. It's usually 30 or more years between re-paving. I lived down Hwy 92 and visit each year for Christmas. Last time that was re-paved was in 1994. I used to commute from Mermentau to Oakdale, part of that being Hwy 90 and then Hwy 26. I don't know if its been repaved or not since then (probably not), but Hwy 26 was so bad it basically has "speed bumps" every few hundred yards from the road buckling from the heat year after year.

Yeah it’s embarrassing how bad that stretch of Hwy 90 is. I was hoping a set of re valved shocks w/ correct spring rate by a tuner would be the ticket on a Base. I don’t see why that isn’t possible, but I’m not familiar with Vettes. I raced dirt bikes for years and know what a good tuner can do.
I would like to avoid the MRC, bc most 2009’s will probably need those serviced/replaced upon purchase of a Vette with 50k+ miles.

I like your attitude. Haha.

With a non-MRC car, there are many shock options including coil overs.
I say give the Corvette a try and see how your drive is. If you don't like it, you can sell the car and likely not have lost much in the process.
And you likely can find a shock setup that will ride quite nicely. I think there are three different levels of Bilstein shocks depending on your preference.
