replacing stock radio pioneer or kenwood?
I am interested in 2 different units the Pioneer avh-w4500nex and the Kenwood ddx9707s. I believe they are both close in quality, what I hoping is to hear from people who have installed them into their C6 Corvette. I do have the Bose sound system in my grand sport. I know the Kenwood will fit, my concern is the Pioneer. Pioneer says it will fit but Crutchfield says it will not. Crutchfield show's the Corvette to have 6.75 inch depth available and the Pioneer to need 7inch. Pioneer shows 7in depth. Do any of you have either of these installed?

If Crutchfield says it won't fit, it most likely won't fit. Kenwood is an excellent brand. I have one in my 08 vert, and have been using them pretty exclusively for years because of their top end quality.

I believe there's some plastic behind the radio you can cut if you want the pioneer to fit. That being said, I am a pioneer guy but am currently running an alpine due to stock issues with all pioneers. I think Pioneer has the best UI out of all car stereos

I don't know anything about the Pioneer audio systems, but the reason I installed a Kenwood HU was because I could get one with built-in Garmin navigation.
While using a cell phone for navigation would also work well, I just don't want using my cellphone screen for navigation.
And I still believe that Garmin is the 'gold standard' when it comes to navigation systems.
And don't believe that when Crutchfield tells you a certain HU won't fit in a C6 Corvette .. They told me that my Kenwood would not fit .. Well, it fits perfectly:

KW bolted in to my base model C6 that started life with the base head unit. I settled on the KW and found a local place that I talked to and felt comfortable with. I inquired about a speaker upgrade to go along with the KW head unit ready to open wallet and see what they can come up with. They didn't know me as that was the first time I've visited their shop. They said "Let's try it with the stock speakers and see how you like it." My "test play" was ZZ TOP's LaGrange. LaGrange is local to me and lets just say we go way back. Great sound with the stock base model speakers.

I've got the 7706s and really love it. Here's a thread I recently made of my install. It should answer any of your wiring questions.

I recently replaced the stock radio in my 2012 GS with a Kenwood unit. Here’s my post on the installation and the details:

Can't go wrong with Kenwood head units.

My main concern was putting carplay in my c6 and couldnt get the pioneer or kenwood I wanted. I ended up with a sony this time and I've got to say, its excellent. There is much less lag on the bluetooth and the everything just works so well. Still, one of my favorite parts was the ability to reassign the steering wheel controls on the unit itself.

Thanks for the input! I also want to thank you all for the links to your threads with install details. I am familiar with aftermarket radio installs, I have cut pieces out to fit decks in both my 2002 WS6 Trans Am and my 1988 fiero. I even at one time had a fiero with 2 MTX t8000 10 inch subwoofers and a Thunder 1501D AMP putting out over 1700 watts RMS.(still have it but the car is beyond saving) I am hoping to not have to cut anything on the grand sport. I chose the two models because they both would play cd's and have the ability for a front and rear camera... I am hoping to be able to install the front and rear without cutting new holes but we will see. I am really liking the Grand sport so far but I am surprised that I have less room than in my fiero. I am thinking about a supercharger in the future for the grand sport.
I went ahead and ordered the Kenwood DDX9707S....thanks all!!

I have not had any experience with those two exact headunits but I have always been a fan of Kenwood. I recently put the dmx706s in my 2011 and so far I’m loving it. Just make sure you get the PAC rp5-gm11 wiring interface.

I prefer the pioneer head units & find them more user friendly than the Kenwood. I have the avh-2440nex & have been very happy with it. Make sure you get one with dual camera inputs

The Crutchfield fitment guide on the pioneer is incorrect, they fit just fine. The only one I’ve found doesn’t fit correctly is the avh-2500/2550 because it doesn’t work well with the metra frame.

My choice is Kenwood, without GPS, I use Waze lot better, and always up to date.

Where did you order it from? I ordered the same unit from Crutchfield on 9/29/21 and am still on the wait list. Probably sitting on a boat off the coast of California.

I have a Sony XAV-AX1000. It was a low cost unit, but works quite well. I use CarPlay all the time, and the UI is nice due to low lag. One thing that kills me about most of these units (and why I picked the Sony XAV-AX1000) is the lack of **** for volume. I can't stand +/- buttons, and touch is even worse. **** is so quick and easy.
