Default Clunk left rear during gear shifts, axle nut is tight.

Left rear clunks, when stopped it will reliably clunk when shifting from reverse to drive or vice versa, or when driving you can sometimes hear it 1st to 2nd up or down shift. Seemed to be not frequent at first but now is pretty much constant occurrence. Listening outside it sounds like it is coming directly from the left rim/rotor. Doesn't seem to be brake related, as with brake not applied you can still hear it but who knows.
Axle nut is tight with a nordlock washer. Is it worth removing and torque down a new nut? I assume if the axle itself were bad there would be a more dramatic symptom? Observing the axles when shifting reverseto drive with brake applied they both move a slight amount equally.
I certainly may have over tightened the axle nut at some point in the past given the torque numbers were all over the place there for a while years ago.

Put in aftermarket links long ago, maybe they are worn now, but makes the clunk when car is not in any kind of motion.
