Stay in Monterey instead. It’s not that far from Laguna Seca and it’s a better area. Slightly more expensive, but you’re already a Vette owner who is doing a track day, so what does a little more money matter in the grand scheme of things? Salinas is a town you pass through to get to other places, not a place to spend any time, IMHO.

DO NOT leave your car unlocked in Salinas.
Spend the extra money. Stay where everyone else stays.
there’s usually a host hotel for the event where others will stay.
stay in marina or seaside.

After speaking with the hotel desk in Salinas, I changed my reservation to Monterey and had a great weekend at the aquarium and track. It seems that there isn't much factually known about increasing or decreasing your chances of damage by car break-in beyond leaving nothing attractive visible in the car - and that is no guarantee. I spent the extra on the hotel instead of risking a track day. Those aren't cheap and it was a 3 hour drive one way.

You have probably read about SF people leaving there trunk lids up and windows down to avoid damage. Last week visitors in a van had the rear window broken and property taken at a stoplight. That said, the problem is not universal. No one even asked for money in Monterey and we saw no one asleep on the sidewalk, etc. We also saw no Monterey police. Not sure how they manage it but it was appreciated.

Dont worry about it unless you leave a cel in it or have a boom box visible it should be fine.
I love my Vette, but if I ever start living my life differently out of worry for my car, I will consider I have paranoia,
you should read the C1-3 sec my god they are afraid aliens will take thier car if they go to the store for a 6 pack.

I'd find a more secure indoor parking facility if you really need to bring the car. Just Uber to/from the garage if it is not walking distance to the hotel.

I'd suggest leaving California all together, it's not much of a problem up here in Montana, because most people around here own guns, and aren't afraid to use them.

If you want to drive Laguna Seca, you have to go to California even if you don’t live there. Not many road race courses in Montana.

We don't need race courses, we have a lot of wide open spaces with plenty of roads unlike Commiefornia

Wide open spaces are great and I love a nice country road, but it’s not the same thing as driving a road course.

Don’t get me wrong, California has gone down the crapper and I want to get out, but we do have a lot of nice tracks to drive on.

california back roads and coastal roads are some of the best in the country. Yes not the same as a track but you can’t get these views at a track.

That's two straight posts bashing California. Got it. You don't like it. So what.

The wait makes driving it that much better.

So you get to enjoy those for what? 3 months out of the year? I can guarantee that Cali and Arizona both have more scenic twisties to drive on than Montana ever will.

ya know what so much better. Driving your car when every you want. Like an awesome New Years Day cruise. Can’t do that in Montana. You can keep your cow patties and cold weather.
