How to spend 30k

My Son and I purchased this Ron Fellows Z06 in Oct. of 2019 with only 13.5k miles for $42K, Haven't seen one for anything close to that since!

If you're looking for a fun canyon carver/autocross car on a $30,000 all in budget, you might want to seriously consider a C5 Z06 to start with and then modify it to your taste. Less $$ up front leaves more headroom in your mod budget and you can do just about anything with a C5 - brakes, suspension, motor, wheels & tires, etc.- you can with a C6. Just some unsolicited free advice, take it for what it's worth.

Yes, best advise! I was able to snag a mid millage (just over 38K) 2004, single owner Z06 in Velocity Yellow earlier this year for about $29K just before asking prices started to climb. The car was MINT with new brakes, new shocks, new tires, upgraded radio and original owner provided complete documentation on all service since purchase. I have pushed this car to the limit, have been tracking her as much as time permits and she has been rock solid, a very fun car. Prices are a bit higher now but you may find a higher millage sample in the high $20's - low $30s K range. You can probably find a low mileage base C5 for that money now but I would save and/or wait and snag the Z06 if you have any track/HPDE in mind.

If you want to go autocrossing an be competitive buy a C5 2002 or newer. Spend the money on tires, brakes and shocks. Tires like the Bridgestone Potenza RE 71s, drilled and slotted rotors, and Z06 shocks.
Go to an autocross event and watch the C5's and C6's race. The C5's seem to go around the track smoother. The C6's seem to nose dive.

Hello all, I'm looking for some advice on what Corvette to buy. A little background info, I've always loved gm vehicles, owned a couple 3rd gen Camaros but always wanted a Corvette, just couldn't afford it. I've been without a weekend warrior car for a few years now and have the itch again.
The end goal of the car is to be a street car/canyon carver that is capable on the autocross course and track.
My hang up is to weather to buy a base model c6 with LS3 and a 6spd for around 20k and throw the rest of the cash into wheels, tires, suspension and header back exhaust. Or keep waiting till I can find a c6 Z06 for around 30k.
What would some of you do if you were in my position?

Personally, I think kyou already answered your own question. I believe it will be quite some time before the Z comes down to the 30K price point, and at that I might want to be VERY selective about the one i choose. I would think the best path right now is to find a nice low-miliage Ls2 or 3...good deals are out there and a nice supply to choose from...you won't loose money on it and and your next one will be theZ06. I moved from a Z51 'vert ('06) to a 427 Anniversary....got exactly what i paid for it as a trade, so my next one will be the C7 Z that I just can't quite reach right now. Good luck and HAVE FUN !
