Default A6 Paddle Shifting Question

I love the sound of the LS3 so much that I now only drive w/ the paddles!
I daily drive my C6 and I’m curious,
Is there’s any extra wear on the tranny by manually shifting?
Sorry for the noob question but I plan to keep her long term so if by using only the paddles will bring more harm than good then I’ll need to reconsider my driving habits!

There doesn't seem to be any adverse affect by using the paddles. I've used the paddles constantly, and the tranny is still intact after 115000 miles.

You would think G.M. engineers would not have put paddle shifters there if not intended to use them. On the other hand you can abuse anything like dumping the clutch on a stick car.

People who know a ton more about C6 Corvettes than I ever will have said that the computer won't allow you do do anything that could potentially harm the tranny. For example, at a stoplight, try to shift into 4th, 5th or 6th. Can't do it, the computer is programmed to not let you try to take off in one of those gears since doing so could potentially harm the tranny.

You may notice an increase in trans fluid temp but only if you late shift or wind out the gears. Maybe a 25°F increase in normal fluid temp.

That’s pretty reassuring I appreciate the reply!

I did notice the tranny fluids temp rise when shifting around 5-6k RPM’s.
How do you know when to shift?
I assumed you just shifted when you wanted to w/ the paddles.
I didn’t realize you could shift too early or too late!

You should be fine using the paddles full time.

Default Another Question

How come from 1st gear the car won’t upshift on its own?
Yesterday at a stop light I dropped the gear from 2nd to 1st and went on it when the light changed.
It took the RPM’s to redline & held it there until I upshifted!
Anyone else experience this?
I was told the car would upshift & downshift on its own if I didn’t do so myself so I tried it for the first time & when that happened it scared the crap out of me!

No it doesn't do that, that's what D is for. No point in S if it does it for you. I had my trans tuned and had them tune it to go to 1st instead of 2nd like it comes from the factory.

The transmission, in paddle shift mode, will only downshift by itself, upshift is on you. In "S" mode it will do both but will shift by factory or tuned programming.

It depends on what your doing with the car; racing, cruising etc. If you want max accel then shift at redline Approx.6600RPM, if your cruising then shift at lowest possible RPM the trans will let you know if its able to shift.

Also try this, works well for me on downshifing. Hit the downshift then blip the throttle, it will rev match and feel smoother.

What does it mean to blip the throttle?
& I think 08-13 come standard w/ rev match don’t they?

I don't think 08's do. Mine is an 06. To blip is just push on the throttle once quick to get revs up to match the upcoming downshift. The delay in the downshift timing is perfect for you to blip the throttle after you pull to downshift.

My 09 has the rev matching, also you may want to have a tuner tune your trans, you’ll love the paddle shifters more..

I REALLY like the paddle shifters in my 07. Very likely it was Dano523 who told me that if I want to become skilled at using the paddles ... don't ever use "D" mode again. Also, I like that layout, or the scheme, the philosophy, of the paddles in a Corvette. These are apparently different from the European. Something about UP on one side, DOWN on the other. I prefer being able to select Up or Down from either side of the steering wheel. AND I'm glad my Merican Vette is not like a european car.

You can keep the car from shifting into 6th by using the paddles. Someone told me that you cannot reach the car's top speed in 6th, that you have to stay in 5th. Of course, no one here would ever drive that fast ...
