What does the wet or dry sump do? We learn something new everyday! Do tell!
it has to do with gravity and oil deprivation while racing. Extreme manuvers will deprive the engine of oil when making turns at spead. While the dry sump in the 2006 and 2007 helped with the problem it did not eliminate it causing GM to increase the oil capacity in later years. This wax in the 427 Z06 and later the Grand Sport
C6 GS dry sump gets 10.5 qts. Always check the oil level after an oil change even if performed by a dealer. I recently took my car to the dealer for a coolant flush and had them change the oil. Checked it when I got home, and of course they overfilled the oil by 1/2 a quart.
First time I took mine to dealer for free oil change due to previous screw up was last month. They shorted me about 1 1/2 quart which I discovered before driving away. It was in for warranty a/c work and while inspecting the work and checking the oil, the hood damn near took my shoulder away as the struts failed. I had been under the hood earlier that week with no problem so in addition to more oil I told them to replace the struts gratis. When I asked why they didn’t tell me about the struts, the service advisor said that most customers don’t go under the hood so it was more the dealer’s problem when doing work.
Unbelievable but true! Always check their work to the best of your ability.
