So I was talking with the new neighbor yesterday...
Met my new new neighbor yesterday. He was asking about my car, it's engine mods, and how much HP it has. I told him it's an 08, had headers, catless X-pipe, and a tune, and that it has 413 HP at the wheel.
He told me I should chip it so I could get 800 HP.

Let me guess, he's selling the chips. I guess someone forgot to tell him that there's no chipping of Corvettes.

A guy looking at my 78, told me he had a Corvette when they were steel bodies.

I remember when those Hypertech PowerChips and ADS SuperChips were all the rage. Good times.

Then there was my neighbor who swore that he had a '63 Stingray convertible with a 289. He was absolutely100% positive. I finally said, "OK, you might be right".

Safety Car
Whenever I take my 70 to a large car show I hear half a dozen of these 'tall tales'.
Pro Tip - just nod your head and agree, mention that must have been a really nice/fast car an move them along. Anything else is a complete waste of time.

I’ve overheard others at car gatherings tell their friends the supercharger on top of my engine is a turbo;
Had a few young guys, who may have been well-versed in Japanese cars (I didn’t really know what they were talking about ) try to give me pointers on how to get my car some actual horsepower, like cranking up the boost to at least 20psi because the 652 it’s rated is probably more like 450 according to them;
Had a woman exclaim to her husband that my car was crap because “did you see those two paint chips in the front spoiler, geez”.
And to be honest, with no offense intended to anyone here, but some of the worst are older (age) Corvette owners who basically spout whatever their sales guy tells them or what they read on the internet.
Been that way forever though

Tell your neighbor I have some beach front property in Iraq I'd like to sell him.... I don't know if it's the drugs he's taking or the drugs he needs to be taking but he needs to be set straight. Ed I think you're just the neighbor to do it!

On my 85, Well I started with 230HP, changed to the carb and manifold, said it added 200HP, then headers + another 100, roller cam +200, then the 6 speed, another 100, then added fuel buster + 50, did the radio mod = likely another 100hp, but will try the chip. just have to find the computer in the shop and put the computer under the seat.. so I figure I'm at least going to be at 1800 hp.. can't wait ...
