Walking away with a fair settlement is probably the best outcome In this situation. My initial reaction when you first posted was ‘totaled’!
Yes, it could have been fixed, and it will be after some Youtuber buys it from Copart! But for you, it just never would have been the same.
The other issue is an “unclean” Carfax. You’d have some explaining to do when it came to a sale. Not as big a deal if you kept it another 10 years.

Glad it was resolved to your satisfaction. I wouldn't have wanted it back. AO is a pain to paint match and the rear definitely looked screw up.
Uninsured motorists should face community service, maybe jail time or a fine they cant weasel out of. They stste they never need insurance so why pay, then complain when they do.
