I tried a couple of things but they had long necks and\or took up\blocked too much of the windshield.

A few weeks ago I got a cell phone holder at Advance Auto that had pretty much no neck, just a suction cup and enough arm to put a ball on. Turned it vertical and put it high on the windshield to the left. Just enough room to get my hand between the phone and the boost and fuel pressure gauges on the pillar when I need to use my fingerprint to unlock it. The top of the phone wedges between the windshield and the trim.

Then, the power cord was the problem until I got one that had a 180 degree connector at the phone end so it goes up behind the phone. Haven't quite gotten the cord routing worked out, just got it today but it is pretty good.

I will post a pic tomorrow or as soon as I get Outlook working on my phone again. Here is a pic from the Advance Auto website.

I just got one of these.

I think I like it. I've been able to get the goose neck bent so the phone is not blocking the NAV and out of the way for shifting. Seems pretty sturdy and doesn't vibrate too much.

I bought this last year, and truly love it, and my friends also bought it.

Mag Mount. Under $20.00. Small. Mounts anywhere with 2 sided tape. It has been there for 6 years now. Phone is solid and does not fall off.

Need to break it down farther, hence what phone, do you need wireless charging, or are you running wired apple play and going to use USB plug in instead.
Hence like the proclip bases since they snap into the bezel, but can get spendy really fast if you want wireless charging as well.

This. (Just follow the instructions about cleaning the surface before sticking it on.)

I bought a Pro-Clip. A little pricey but works well.

I like the scosche brand magnet mounts. Mine is similar to this one, but it's mounted on the dash material (also used adhesive promoter) instead of the console trim/plastic:

Just a metal plate you put in your case or stick to the back. Every other type of phone holder seems silly now after using the magnet one.

I went with a pro-clip mount and scosche mag. Ended up doing this in my other vehicles too. Never any trouble, phone stays right there and is unobtrusive, can still use both cupholders, etc. Little pricey for the pro-clip, but I do like it. I have wired CarPlay, so I ran the cable under the trim and plug her right in.

Oh sure, you could get a bulky cell phone holder (NOT !! ) or you could get a much simpler cell phone holder that gets closer to your eye level.
I CANNOT believe nobody has mentioned the Pop Socket vent mount and the clip for your phone. Simple & it simply works !

That might be nice in Wisconsin, but in the Southern U.S. we don't need anything blocking our AC vents in the summer. Before you tell me it gets hot there too, I lived 50 miles west of Chicago from 2002-2013. It doesn't get brutally hot there.
