Default What the **** is this Strange Noise

2006 M6 with 55K miles. This noise occurs about 75% of the time on start up and then goes away. Seems to come from behind the stereo/AC control pad. I've posted in another thread that my AC/Heat control panel doesn't work correctly. I wonder if they are related. Anyone ever heard this type of nose before?

Wow, that definitely is a strange noise. I have no clue.

I recently replaced my radio and other than the steering wheel controls module and the RCDLR (remote control door lock receiver) there isn’t much back there.

You need to lube the sprocket and chain and/or foot pedals

Could be the electric actuator motors for the HVAC temperature doors or the HVAC Mode doors. But, I have never heard noises like that. Do your HVAC controls work correctly?

I too was going to say it might be your ac actuators. But failing actuators click, or maybe your ac door panels are moving on their own?

No, ac controls show changes in settings (fan speed, vent/floor/defrost, etc.) but nothing actually changes. Additionally, I changed out the ac control panel and no change.

Does it do the same with the radio on or off? Sounds like it coming from the speakers, not something mechanical within the cabin..

Could it be the Kenwood tilt screen mechanism? Like it's trying to tilt the screen but somehow the mechanism is jammed? Does this happen with the Kenwood powererd off?

that’s the first thing that came to my mind. Had a very similar sound in our home player.

The screen tilt works fine, but that could be it. I'll try starting with Kenwood off. Thanks.

Well, the noise might have come from the Kenwood as suggested. The car is now being transported to FL so I can't really see if that is the problem for a few days. With the Kenwood turned off for one start, the noise didn't occur. Thanks people!
