Default Am I the only one who has had plug wires pop off on their LS3 ?

Long story short, in the last 500 miles or so I've seen P0300 codes and found plug wires just dangling near their intended location. And the car has less than 10k miles on it !! A quick fix, but I was just curious ;-} Mark

I have never had a plug wire pop off on any car and that covers over 45 years of driving. My '13 GS vert has 75,000 miles on the odo and no wires popping off.

This was a discussion a few months back at a local cars & coffee, seems the owner of the popped plug wire vehicle suffered this on two separate occasions. The only similar item was the event happened after a local monthly evening car show. Since it was summarized that someone is not reading the “hands off the car” sign, a small hidden camera came up with the root cause. Nothing mechanical of course, just an angry ex-spouse who knew how to pull his chain (plug wire)

I had one pop off, 13k garage kept miles. People say dielectric great in the boot helps. When mine popped off I went around and made sure the rest were good and seated.

Nope. Had a wire pop off my 2011 GS the day after I bought it. Scared the crap out of me.

I installed a set of Summit Racing wires and have not had any problem since.

About 2 years ago I had one pop off. I was doing a U-turn and got on it pretty hard and all kinds of lights came on.

There are quite a few posts on here of people with the exact same problem. I had one fall off last year.

Yes I have. Found terminals at plugs had corroded replaced all the plug wires with new Delco. Also applied dielectric silicon paste to all connections. This was around 20000 miles.

Yup, had one fall off mine last fall. Lit my dashboard up like a Christmas tree and gave me a good scare when it was running rough. Seems to be a common problem on these cars. I'm going in for a cam install in a couple of weeks and I'm doing new plugs and wires for peace of mind.

Recently had the same problem. The way it was explained to me is that an air bubble forms in the boot and as it gets hot, it expands, eventually causing the wire to pop off. Solution is to “burp” the boot with a paper clip. This will allow the air to escape.
Good advice too is to use a bit of dielectric grease in the boot.

Yep, I started mine up after winter sleep, heard a ticking and I said to my wife, something isn't right, seems like a spark plug wire off. Opened the hood and one of my wires was off....

I did have one come loose (not sure if that qualifies as "popped off" after I had an LS3 installed in my "05.

It was about 500 miles after the engine install.

I had one drop off after about 40,000 miles after it had been replaced. Car went into limp mode and I got numerous messages. Thought the car was going to die, everything went back to normal after I put it back on. Sure was a happy day after that.

Knock on wood, mine are still connected nice and tight. But now knowing this issues with plug wires coming off, I will definitely check them every now and then.

Default Plug Wires Pop Off

Yep, I had the same problem a few years ago. It happened repeatedly over a few weeks and got to be bothersome. Can't precisely remember if it was #4 or #6 cylinder but it was definitely on the right bank. Ended up putting new wires/boots on and it was a good excuse to go to the larger diameter wire size. No problems at all since the change. YMMMV

I've had my 2009 since jan / 2017 ( 2nd owner @ 98k miles ) and have never had this issue. in checking the Carfax records, their
was no mention of the plugs or wires ever have being replaced. at 131k miles i felt it was past time to replace both items.
most of the plugs were fine but, one had the electrode totally melted away. the car ran great with no noticeable issues.
the wires though, while looking fine, were mostly dry rotted and cracked upon removal.
even with all of this, they never came loose.

I had it happen on a trans am I had 2001 from what I have seen these LS engines are hard on wires. High heat combined with expansion and contraction it happens..Stuck me on a hairy situation (I have 2 spare msd short truck style that I have in my emergency bag, a must have IMO)It keeps a super hard drive for a price of mind even if you have life get in the way. Good luck buddy don’t worry about it.

Apparently on this thread/issue I'm the exception at 160K miles, a few plug changes, don't use dielectric grease or "burp" the boot, and still have the original factory wires that have never popped off. It seems that most problems are infancy (less than 15K miles) or normal age/maintenance issues (5+years/75K+ miles), yet some things never become problems. Cars are like people, in that every one is somewhat different and they don't last forever.

Plug wires no. Injector wires yes. Twice in last two years I have had the connectors come loose and cause the cylinder shut down. Simply pushing the connectors on again corrects the issue. Is this common also.
