Default Silicone Replacement of coolant hoses?

Hi gang,
My 2008 C6 is coming up on its 12th birthday and I think it’s time to swap out all the coolant hoses along with the thermostat and belts. My question is, Should I go for the extra expense and install silicone hoses and do they last longer than the standard oem‘s ?
thanks for the help,
mike

Silicone should last longer, but if you got 12 years out of the originals do you really see yourself keeping the car more than a quarter century ?

I replaced mine on my 08 last winter. I used the Mishimoto Silicone hose kit. Not cheap but looks much better.

I changed my hoses out to silicone in 2011, and they still look like new.

This is my first and last vette. I bought it when I retired now I’m in my 70’s I don’t foresee getting rid of it. I’m hoping to pass it down to my grandson when I go but until then I want to keep it in good shape.

I purchased directly from Mishimoto website on black Monday and they were around $150.00 cheaper. The upper radiator hose for the 08 is the longer one of the two offered. All in upper and lower and heater hoses were around $235.00.

Replaced mine in my '05 about 2 years ago, OEM's lasted 13 years and still looked and felt good. Also changed the water pump. I went with OEM again, can't complain about 13 years on the first set. Silicone looks nice but only one seeing my engine is me so no need for anything fancy under there. YMMV...

RobLo, was the water pump getting noisy or did you just think it was time?

No Mike, wasn't noisy at all. For quite a long time I was smelling coolant, could never see any drips or leakage under the car and I added very little over time. I have a very good local mechanic who was going to do the work on my car, I told him about the smell and he pointed out a small residue of dried coolant ABOVE the pump, seems the pulley was picking up the leaking coolant and spraying it around and I never saw it. He changed the pump and haven't had the problem since.

OP, Your car proves that the OEM hoses are a quality product, if you need to get more than 12 years out of your hoses, buy the silicone ones

If you opt for silicone hoses you'll only need to buy them once.
