Am I crazy to want a C6 over a C7?
#22
I do too. I only asked it here because I know everyone there would say how great the C7 and new LT1 is and just to get one. I have done a lot of research and I just worry about too much technology being a bad thing for longevity. The LS3 is way more old school and I really like that. If I go the C6 LS3 route I would definately mod it a bit. 4.10 gears, LT's and a mid size cam that gives some power gains yet retains good driving manners and maybe I have the stock heads ported. I could see myself being very happy with that.
On the other hand if I get the C7 I would likely be too afraid to mod it and would very likely keep it stock which is also fine as long as it has performance exhaust for the sound. I could be very happy with that too. Unless the car has major issues post 100,000 miles including having to have the engine torn down and rebuilt due to carbon build up.

Modded C6 with C7 headlights or a stock C7. It's a gamble either way but the LS3 is proven where the LT1 has not had enough time yet to have a final jugement.

I do appreciate all the feedback too guys. It's clear the advice here is not biased in any way because most are telling to get the C7. I'm watching a lot of youtube videos on both the C6 and C7 so whatever decision I make will be well researched if nothing else.

I think the C6 is the better car between it and C7. That's why I bought a c6 GS that cost what a C7 would have at the time. But I'm not the one making the choice, you are, and you like the C7 more.

I have a few miles on both the C6 and C7, and I prefer the C7.
mr.owC6 has fewer miles on both generations, and prefers the C6.
It works for me!
However, this said; the base C6 is not as powerful, but feels more powerful. The base C6 is raw, whereas the C7 is refined. Autos. A4 ('05), A6 ('08), A6 ('14).
There is a noticeable difference in the Z06 of both generations. The C7 is both more powerful and raw-feeling. Manual for both. It is a big difference between 505 and 650 HP.

I've got a 2013 C6 GS coupe which I am keeping because I still have never warmed up to the looks of the C7.
But If I ever did wake up one morning suddenly liking the C7 styling there would be one in my garage before sundown that day.
The C7 is a wonderful sports car with a fine motor. . . . based on his first post the OP should get one . . . and I "love" my C6

I never did buy a C7.....kept my C6 now for going on 13 years because I fit better and felt more comfortable in it. C8? Well, maybe once all the hype and crazy stuff dies down.

This is a tough one for me, no you aren't crazy for wanting a C6 over a C7. At the end of the day either a C6 or C7 will be sitting in your garage and I sure hope that's the car you smile to every morning whenever you head off to work or on a cruise.Get the car that you most desire, test drive them both, ask yourself whether you see yourself driving each car to 200k miles and not regretting it over trying to get the other car. Life is too short to live in regret, choose wisely. As for myself, well I love both C6, C5, C4, C7, C8, C3, C2 and even C1. Sadly my wallet can only get between a C4 and a C6, of course you know what I went with if I'm posting here . I don't regret it a single bit and plan on getting or owning one of every generation at one point in my life.

My personal opinion is that the C7 is a better looking car. I absolutely love the exterior styling (even the tail lights). I also think the interior is much better quality and far more modern. I also love the way the new LT1 sounds with the performance exhaust. I can get one used in the 36-40K range which is within my budget. So getting a C7 would seem like a no brainer. Except.....
I love the LS3 engine. I hate the idea of cylinder deactivation, carbon buildup and I have heard that tuning the LT1 is far more difficult. I would prefer a C7 with an engine swap to a LS3. But I honestly can't fathom spending that kind of money on a C7 and then going through the cost and hassle to do an engine swap that would be considered a down grade. So I am seriously considering buying an 08+ C6 with a manual transmission and then spending $1,200 on the Morimoto C7 style headlight kit because I was never a fan of the C6 headlight design.
Is that crazy?

I was surprised that several C6 owners from each club used to own a C7 and they sold or traded their C7 to get into their current C6 or back into a C6. They gave me reasons like, more comfy and more room in a C6, and C7 problems as , ...A8 transmission problems and quirks, cracked wheels, overheating, electrical malfunctions,
paint quality, liked the old-school feeling, or steering feel, of a C6 better, and other reasons that I can't think of now. And several of them also upgraded their C6 with more modern head-units, steering wheels and custom paddle shifters and or other interior parts. They all seemed real happy with their C6 choices, and showed me their chosen cars, and a few also let me take test drives.
After driving several versions of both cars,.... I ended up with a 2011 C6 Coupe with low miles and I also upgraded mine with a new Headunit, front & rear cameras, dashcam, Uniden R7 rardar detector, Custom steering wheel with upgraded paddles and other interior bits. I love my C6 and will most likely never sell it.

I had a '10 M6 GS. I had a ton of fun in that car. It was my twenty first life time Vette. Very reliable. But, after ten years I was getting tired of buying big fat tires. And, dragging the front end over every wrinkle in the road. I considered the C8 but no manual was a deal killer. So, I bought a '19 M7 Z51 w/mag ride. The C7 is a way better all around performer. Its faster with better handling. More modern styling and way nicer interior. Its a simple matter of "that was then, this is now". Buy what rings your bell.

The C7 is surely a better car in every way, but I always liked the widebody C6, to me it looks tight and businesslike and not over-styled.

I test drove a few C7's. I liked them but I ultimately decided to stay with my C6. Mostly due to the rumors of the C8. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Seems like owners are happy with what they are driving.

All great cars in their own right. C7 definitely looks more fresh and more in line with current design/appearance trends. A bit more refined and better quality in some regards. IMO, the C7 has a little less soul. Possibly a move to help appease the constant barrage of auto media comments about things like interiors and steering feel. Personally, I think the C6 has done well at remaining a good looking car in an ever changing car style environment. In ways obviously dated (headlights, electronics) but still nice. Driving wise, I kinda like a car that can be a little twitchy and wild. I don’t see much value in a ton of features like ride adjust, cameras, supple leather and stitching patterns. All cool in their own right, they just don’t sell me. Totally normal to prefer an older generation and testament to how good each has been.
