I've not set mine yet, I only had one original key to the car when I purchased it and bought another and programmed it myself.....Did I read where "key fobs 1 & 2" have to be recognized in order to set a welcome message?

That’s not true. Stick whatever key you have and set the message.
You don’t need both keys and you can have up to 4 different messages if you have 4 keys.

key fob 1 and 2 can only be programmed with a custom welcome message.
3 and 4 will be a generic welcome greeting.

When I bought mine a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that the DIC just said "666", I was like weird. Then I remembered the dealer telling me though I bought the car back from a long time dealership friend, and that he died shortly after he bought it. He had put less than 500 miles on it (2011 had 31k miles). Then I discovered that the last 3 digits of the VIN are 666 :-O, so the other day I changed it to "CARL"
