C6 Throttle Body Mod, Free, Need Feedback for Design
Update 04/22/2020. The test phase has concluded. Parts are now available here (Starting at $225): https://www.solerengineering.com/store/se5109-95
Thank you very much to all the participants.
Soler Performance LLC, is looking for C6 owners in the continental US willing to try our modified throttle body. Free of charge, yours to keep and also ships free. Only need your honest feedback in return, good or bad. If you have HP tuners is a big plus, and we'd be grateful if you send us a log along with your comments.
These TB's are for 2009-2013 C6's, and we need one LS3 Manual, one LS7 Manual, and one LS7 automatic.
Please reply to this thread with your car specs if you’d like to participate. Include relevant mods and data logging/streaming/diagnostic capabilities if you have any. IM is okay, but prefer posts for visibility.
Important Note: Although we don’t anticipate any issues, this product has not been fully tested, use at your own risk in a safe place and manner. It may take another round or two of refinements, depending on results, in the end, you'll have a TB you love and we'll have a verified design that works well. You can always post at any time you'd like but understand that the review of the final product is what counts, this is only the beta version.
We have been very successful with the LT1/LT4/LT5, and have applied the same formula to the LS3/LS7. This design includes; sonic flow nozzles, shaftless high-pressure side, and a very smooth surface finish, plus with the aid of some other cuts, we were able to take it from 90mm to 95mm effective flow area.
Thank you for your help!

Our understanding is that the 05-08's came with the LS2; correct? The throttle body p/n is different for those (aka silver blade TB). Which we'll take a look at right after this one.

Thanks, ptroxx. Looking sharp! We are going to keep the request open until next Friday and ship parts 03/02/2020. We'll let you know then. Are you able to install and test drive when you receive it? Do you have HP tuners?

Thanks,
I do have HP tuners. But my lap tops on the frits.
I’d for sure install and test. I’m 20 minutes from Sonoma Raceway and our drags are staring back up.

I’ve got a 2010 manual GS, 1 7/8 kooks, rod mod intake, Katech tb. I also have a vmax tb that I can compare it to also. I can datalog if needed and can test immediately. Let me know if you’re interested! Sounds very interesting!

Thanks, Omega. That makes it one less possibility we have to test. See correction on post #1.

that is incorrect the 05-07 have the LS2 and the 05s have the M6 and A4 tranny while the 06 have the M6 and A6 trannys the LS3 started in 08s not 09 and I have a 2008 A6 with just a CAI and ARH and Xpipe with muffler delete and its tuned by AMP my car is a TRUE daily driver I put about 40-50 miles on it daily and that HWY and heavy street traffic with occasional trips to mexico and trips to strip at least once a month in the spring and summer I will be shooting or "trying" for the LS3 bolt on record this summer

Hm, thanks for the info Omega. For some reason, the OEM TB p/n for the 08's is different than that of the TB for 09's and later models. We'd have to do some research about the differences and interchangeability of these two different p/n's. The silver blade vs. gold blade controversy. Soon enough we'll be opening a request for 05-08 testers if differences between TB p/n's turns out to be a factor.

If you need any testers for motors with Forced Induction I'd be very interested. I'm using a VMaxx throttle body.

Intermediate
As per Mikes request this is what I sent him.
Here is my preliminary, I went ahead and put it on yesterday morning.
1. Did not do a PCM reset, wanted to see if out of the box it kicked up codes. No codes came up so I did some easy driving for about 10 miles to let the trims settle.
2. Idle was high up front but eventually settled back to OEM specs.
3. First notice was wheel spin where I did not before. I do not drive with traction control ever (wish I could default it off). Best explanation is that there was more throttle than was given.
4. No apparent change in MPG
5. After a hundred and some change of miles the calibration seems to be honing in.
6. Stays on high idle longer when there is any amount on load on engine. Coasting in gear at low speed no throttle.
7. Biggest notice that I feel changed. Being a sport bike rider when you learn to ride at 10 to 12,000 rpms verse 6 to 8,000, you find you are always at your peak torque curve. In essence throttle response is instant. Soler LS3 throttle body simulates this same feel at highway speed. It feels like the engine is always right at the cusp.
8. My 2 negatives, first I don’t have a comparison so I am still going to port/polish my TB to compare. Second, like all performance mods they lose their luster after a while, they become the new norm. For me it happens very fast, I have already adapted to the changes that is has created.
In summery I am very pleased with the drive ability and simplicity of the swap (was able to just plug and play). I don’t believe in Dyno heroes; reality is a very small percentage of high hp power engines ever get used for what they are built for. SOTP is all that matters really matters, just like sport bikes, the operator is usually the weakest link. Having 1,000 horse power doesn’t mean much if you can’t handle 100.
I will get your data logs this weekend and after I work on my TB just simple porting and polishing, disregarding your design but as a normal gear-head and machinist would do, I will give feedback as well.
Works great as of now.

I also installed mine today but i didn't have much time to test it out. Install went great and i let it idle for 5 minutes to check for idle quality and any codes. Idled just fine and no codes at all. As SgtUsmc0313 stated, i also noticed it seemed a bit more lively at lower speeds. Temps were around 65 today here in Dallas so roads weren't as grabby as they couldn't been but definitely weren't slick. I have used the Vmax and Katech units in the past and this one seems to be a bit better so far. I will hopefully get some time to play around with it a bit more this weekend. So far so good!

I also got mine a few days ago. But my car is down as I’m waiting on a few other parts before I can start the car.
I have a Vmax on there now. And can’t wait to see if any difference in the 2 units.
Waiting on a new catch can should be in tomorrow and a few washers for my coil packs should be in Sunday.
Might get some seat time Sunday if Amazon comes early enough.
Here’s the unboxing of the new TB
