I'd have to say I've never had an ACDelco battery fail on me. I replaced the one the new-to-me vette had after the first winter because I didn't know how long it had been in there. That new ACDelco came with a 42 month unprorated warranty and was installed in May 2018, so its got about another year and a half to go. If I can get the same warranty on another one, I'll replace it in the spring of 2023 just for piece of mind. This is the first time too that I've been using a battery tender, or felt that I needed to use one.

A little insight. Optima batteries were originally designed by Gates Rubber company. Yes the same as Gates belts and hoses. I started selling Optima batteries in the late seventies and sold them until 2012 when I retired from the Parts business. They were sold to Johnson Controls. They are basically the same but do not last as long as the original design. If properly maintained they can last up to ten years. I’ve had customers trade in their old Optima’s as cores. If charged the proper way they can be brought back to life. If they are drained all the way you need to put a high amp charge on them. Then let them cool down. After that charge like a regular battery at maybe 2 or so amps for at least over night. Then it can be tested. If my car sits for more than a week I’ll put the Optima on charge over night at 2 amps. It’s going on two years now and is in very good condition. The trick is not to let it discharge all the way down. BTY Gates factory rep actually showed me a Optima that was shot with a 22 cal bullet. Then tested the battery and tested good. The best part almost zero acid leak. There’s only about 5% acid in the battery.

I just exchanged my Optima Red Top tonight, the sticker said it was exactly 2 years old... piece of crap.
Optima's used to last 5-6 years but but they don't make them in the same place anymore, and they used to have 10-year warranties which is now only 3 years.
A guy at O'Reilly said that Optima is crap now, and he recommended Odyssey.
For now I'll take this Optima (it was free, warranty replacement) but I'll check those out. I think they are pricey though.

for what is worth. I’m retired from the auto parts business. Our main line of batteries was East Penn (Deka) their factory reports that batteries have and I’m talking about all battery manufacturers find the average life span is 28 months. For what ever the reason. So keep that in mind. Maybe you have a small power drain. Measure the drain on your battery while it’s connected. Then check it disconnected. If you have more then a few milly amps draw that would cause your issue. If your car sits more than a week at a time maybe a tender might be what you need. And yes optima is not the same as they used to be.

I had noticed it dragging slightly last month or so but I attributed it to cooler weather...I was wrong...Battery was going bad.

Batteries last only 2 to 2 1/2 years for my car since new here in Florida. Delco batteries were replaced under my extended warranty for many years, but after that I started buying the Autozone Duralast batteries and getting every other battery free under warranty. No experience with Optima batteries, but some others have told me that they didn't last any longer here in Florida's temperatures.

The Optima would be my choice and was, but it will not fit in a GS coupe in the back of the car without some jury rigging. The Optima is taller than the OEM and the threaded rods are not long enough tho install the hold down. I gave up and stayed with the OEM
