What C6 Should I buy IF....
I wan't to buy a C6, drive it for 6-12 months and then sell it and get most of my money back. Not looking to mod it, track it, etc. I am not in a hurry, and I am paying cash, so I could move on a good deal when I find one. I can also wait a few months for the right buyer when the time comes to sell.
I have heard that the C6 ZR1's have come near a bottom in their price, and should level out, and eventually increase in value, though I have no idea if this is true, nor do I have the cash for a ZR1 so it doesn't really matter, just wondering if you guys agree with that sentiment. If that is true, what do you guys think the prices will do on a C6 Z51/GrandSport/Z06 will be doing going forward? Ideally I would love to find a decent Z51. I think my only requirement is that it be a manual transmission. Thoughts on the best car to focus on? I understand if the economy goes south during my ownership, all bets are off, but if you have to be stuck with something, there are worse things to be stuck with than a C6.
Thanks Y'all

Could you clarify this a bit? Are you looking for a ZR1, Z06, GS, or base with Z51? You named off multiple models with no real budget as to what you are looking for. How much do you have to spend? Are you looking for the least depreciating model? Are you looking for a model that has already depreciated about as much as it will?

ZR1’s are not increasing in value until when probably we need a cane to walk. Prices will continue to drop across the board. The ones that will stabilize better are limited production ZR1’s, carbon editions & 427s

Buy the best, cheapest car you can find. Now best, cheapest aren’t usually used together, you will need to balance the best cheapest the best you can.

Buy a 2020 base vette for $60k, drive it a year, and sell it for more cuz the 2021s will be probably be $80k for a base.

If your biggest concern is breaking even, find a clean, low miles, red, 06-07 3LT w/Z51.
Not the sexiest or the fastest, but likely to depreciate the least and sell the easiest.

A nice low mileage base will lose the least in actual dollars...
Buy a nice low mileage base, drive it for a year and you might lose $1k unless you over paid to begin with.

But realistically, could any one actually buy a 2020 base car? I assume all that are going to be made are spoken for and I would think almost anyone in line to order one will order at least the 2LT (mid package). Basically I just wanna spend 20k - 30k of some investment money, enjoy it for 6 - 12 months, and not lose my shirt in the process. I am not looking to make money obviously, but I don't want to loose more then 5k over the year, though if I do, it's not the end of the world.

I just spent a few months looking for a car, found a 2009 CSR package Z-51 manual transmission car with 35k miles I fell in love with it, just thought it was neat to own one of 52 cars made. I paid 27k for it, could have found a cheaper car, but none of the others got me going like this one did. Not at all sorry about the decision I made. Car makes 451 hp to the wheels and is a blast to drive. I think it will hold its value okay, but that is not why I bought it.

I don't think any C6 is dropping Like a Rock so you can pretty much pick any one that you like that's at the price you want to pay and buy it. You'll be just fine unloading it in six months and not taking a bath in it.
I was considering buying a C7 ZO6 new but because I was impatient I decided I would buy a C6 and if I decided I still wanted the c7z I could trade it or unload it. Turns out I really prefer the 427 I bought. But I think I could probably sell it for what I paid for it without any problem. My C5 that I just sold to buy the C6 I lost nothing on. If you buy them used you're not going to take a bath in it.

They are not at, or near, the bottom.
They will not be going up for at least 10 years, and then only the rarest of models, with low mileage.
For your situation, buy at the extremes of mileage. Either very low, no more than 1500 miles per year, or total miles close to 100K.
Also, research prices nationwide, and get the best deal you can find. If a 3LT is avail at a price comparable to a 1LT, buy it.

If you're looking to only keep it for 6-12 months, you don't need to worry about depreciation. Just find the best deal on the nicest car. The closer you can get it to wholesale, the less money you lose when you go to sell it. Avoid divisive colors like yellow as they tend to sit on lots a little longer. Oranges and blues seem to be a little more sought after and might be easier to sell down the road. Good luck!

If you want the one you will lose the least on, buy the highest mileage and cheapest one you can find. There is a point at which miles are unimportant to value, and 100k vs 150k miles is a moot point as it's super high mileage in the vette world.
Just be prepared to have a hard time selling it.

Odd request. My formula is $1k/year and $0.10/mi when comparing two otherwise similar cars in this range. So expect to "lose" $2k if you have it for a year and drive it 10k.
These are depreciating assets.
A Z06 with the heads re-done purchased at a good price is probably one of the most marketable.

Two differing opinions......

Considering that you buy the car for a reasonable price, the only way to break even for the period of time(6-12 months) you own the car, is put it in a garage, cover it, and don't drive it! Those are the facts! If you use it as a DD, the car is going to accumulate miles, and road rash. It's not an investment, but a toy that you enjoy driving!
