Get BFG Comp AS tires if you need to drive in cold.

I'm going to go a little bit against the grain and say if the cost of higher priced tires is going to make you drive your summer tires into the winter months by all means go for it. They actually don't have that bad of reviews for what that's worth.

I heard that, too. You can bet a lot of buyers will be running those for a short time, then getting something better.

Lol...Living in Missouri I either put all season tires on from December through March or park the Corvette. We have many 40- 50° days during those months it’s just the over night temps drop into the 20’s or lower. Don’t want to ruin my summer only tires if I get caught in a temp drop.

I'll stick with Michelin.

Bringing this old thread out from 3 years ago. I am curious what the original poster did. Did you purchase the Atlas Tires? If so what was your experience? I see Priority Tire in PA shows the Atlas Tire Force UHP 245/40R18 97Y listed as the first tire they show that they recommend being it is a 97Y rated front tire like the original Run/Flat but a Non Run/Flat tire. Here is my situation. I purchased a 2006 Base Coupe in Mid December 2017. I purchased the car with 14.3k miles on it. I don't drive it much being I own quite a few Classic Cars of which 4 are Corvettes. Well the car still has its original Run/Flats on it and believe it or not they still look like new. The car has always been garaged. I plan on putting a new set of Wheels on the car this year. I want to go non Run/Flat this time around. I am starting to look for tires. I am a old time Corvette owner 52 years. I use to own a Auto Parts Business. Was in it for over 40 years now retired. Curiousity tells me to see if any others used the Atlas Tire Force UHP Tire. Being a old timer quite a few of the Repair Shops I sold to use to stock Atlas Tires. They were a really good tire at one time. Not going to lie I also like the price. What ever I get I will be lucky to put more then a 100 miles a year on the car while I have it.

You lose very little with today's best all season tires versus highly rated UHP summer only tires. And you gain the ability to drive in freezing conditions without worrying about brittle rubber chunking off on UHP summer only tires. How many Corvette drivers ever use the ultimate capability of their tires on the road? Very few. My next set of tires will likely be the Michelin all season runflats. I prefer the ability to drive any time I want without worrying about temperatures, and runflats give me the peace of mind that I won't be stranded in the middle of nowhere on a long trip. Sorry, but it's not a one size fits all solution.

I have had bad luck with Michelin tires for many years. Everyone I ever purchased started cracking in the sidewalls prematurely so I won't buy then anymore. They came on a family car a Mercury Marquis new from the factory. They cracked and the ones I replaced them with cracked. Had a set of Redlines on my '67 Corvette Coupe and they cracked in the sidewall that I had to replace them. I have seen air bubbling out of the cracks on some of them after spraying the sidewalls down with a Sudsy solution. No more Michelin Tires for me. What really bothers me I believe they are aware of the problem for years but it seems they never addressed it. I have been using Yokohama Tires now on my everyday vehicles. Got them on 3 cars. They don't crack in the sidewalls and have been holding up very nicely. To top it off the price is even much better then Michelin.
