Default Widebody question

Hello all,

I have been lurking on the board for a long time but now actively pursuing purchasing a Corvette, so time to tap the knowledge on the board. I am planning on going and looking at a 06 Widebody tomorrow that is listed here. Looks like a really nice car. Has some nice mods done to it. I know we don't buy cars for investments, I have a 70 Chevelle SS that may be a different story, but for the most part it is not the case. However I would like to somewhat protect my investment. Does the fact that a car is a widebody decrease the value in any way? is it something I should shy away from? The car is an 06 and is in the mid 20's price wise so my guess is if it nice, buy it and drive the hell out of it and not worry about what the value will be in the future.

My concerns are more about some of the mods done, RPM did the rear nd and trans (auto) and it has a full blown Brembo brake package. Would that raise an eyebrow that maybe the car has been raced, seems like extreme mods for a street car? also the original engine was replaced. Are these red flags? Spoke with the owner who seems like a very nice gentleman, he is the second owner. I have been around muscle cars all my life but not sure what to look for or what to ask with the Corvettes.

Appreciate any input or guidance.

Pat

Wide body, repainted panels, mods, mid twenties 06 no way. Find a later 08 and up LS3 that has not been cobbled up.

^^^What he said.

Mid 20's buys a really nice low mileage C6 garage queen.

Dittoing what the others said. I wouldn't buy someone else's project. Unless they had proof of all the work done, and done right for that matter. Small things such as exhaust, wheels, radio etc are perfectly fine but bigger tasks usually have shortcuts taken that I would never know about. Think, random clips broken, noises, cheap paint, missing connectors etc you just never know. If you could get that car at a bargain and you're happy with it then go for it. But I'd personally get a un-molested newer car if it were me

Semi recently bought an 09 supercharged ls3, full flex fueling, full exhaust making 700+ at 30k miles for that price... all documented parts and installs, videos of tuner shop and dyno, videos of it performing etc...

Is this the car?

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...o-25000-a.html

Looks nice enough. Only you can decide if it's for you or not. Good luck.

Hello Pat, welcome to the CF.

You might consider having a quality Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI) done on the car in which you’re interested. This could give you some peace of mind or uncover potential issues and help you negotiate from a more informed position.

Good luck with your search!

Thank you all for the input. As I said I have always been around hot rods and muscle cars but the whole Corvette world is new to me. The gentleman states everything was professionally done and has receipts for all work performed. The good news is this car is only about an hour from me so it is easy enough to go look at it. But from what I am hearing 25K is on the high side for this one.

Thanks again, I greatly appreciate you all helping a newbie out.

To pile on: I wouldn't buy any vehicle that has been screwed with like that. You can safely bet that it's been run hard.

That it happens to be a Corvette is irrelevant.

Think I would keep looking. The wide body cars will hold there value better than the stardard no disrespect just stating the facts as I’ve seen them

Amateur Corvette purists are always going to dog any car that has been modded simply because it’s not bone stock. You can buy a highly well modified car that has been taken better care of and in much better shape than some of these purists cars. Don’t overlook them.
