I put an ad in the local craigslist for an airbrush artist with moderate skills and found a guy that did this for $150. He had never done one before and I just told him have at it and do as he pleased. I figured if I didn't like it I'd just paint over and try again. I gave him a couple pictures to give him ideas but all the pics had flames and I told him I didn't want flames so he went with lightning bolts. I like it and it was well worth the money.

Does look good...also, should you have any electrical problems in the future; you know where to look first! lol

I have done a couple over the years.Tthe key is to tape off the portion of the hood liner you don't want to paint and then using high heat flat black soak the flag section where you are painting. this may take five or six heavy coats letting each coat dry before adding the next one. The point is to give the enamel a good solid surface that will not soak up the enamel when painting the flags. Take your time and go slow letting each color dry before going the the next color.

FWIW - Hobby Lobby sells that exact same tin sign in their car decoration department for $29, but you would need to devise your own method of mounting.

I found a local guy that does airbrushing and paid him $175 to do mine. I would be concerned about the decal or stick on ones coming loose and making a mess under the hood.

FWIW - Before I had mine aurbrushed I did a lot of research on the decals and decided that was a poor option as many of the decals failed at some point in the not to distant future, but not all.
If I didn't airbrush mine I would have went the tin sign approach as I've seen several, they look good, and I've heard of no issues.
YMMV

I used some paint I had in my basement and applied it with artist brushes. I removed the hood insulator and took it into the basement. After the paint dried, I applied 4 or 5 coats of VHT High Heat clear engine enamel . Fun project.
