(transparent top) sunshade out of stock: Have to make one myself!
Going on a road trip in a couple of weeks and really want a sunshade for the transparent top. I ordered one and after waiting a week they told me it would be another week, and then after that week they again pushed it back another week. I have a feeling it might never come in. So I decided to make one myself. Wife advised me to use newspaper as a template, and I have a big roll of foil backed insulation that has been sitting in my garage for at least 15 years! So that's the material I used. I ordered a package of suction cups from Ebay that cost me about $3.50 (shipping included). I just have to figure out how to attach 14 suction cups to my now completed sunshade. I have a box of assorted cotter pins and other hardware that I can use.
Starting to make the template.
Newspaper template complete
Lay the template on the insulation material - draw a line around the template.
Template used to draw lines, so cut around the line to make the piece.
Piece fits pretty well. Shiny side is up to reflect heat. From the outside you can't even see it.
This is the shiny side, just to show what it looks like, but this side will be facing up, with suction cups attached.
These are the suction cups that will be attached to the shade and will hold it to the top.

well played, sir.
sorry to hear about a vendor not listing the item as out of stock BEFORE they took your money.

Nice work, very ingenious. I would think you could epoxy them into the insulation.
My sun sun shade has been on so long I'm afraid if I tried to remove it the suction cups would stay stuck to the top....

1. epoxy might be a good idea. I will test it.
2. I actually thought about just gluing the thing to my top since I figured once I put it on I probably will never take it off. (But I will use the suction cups)

I made one myself too. Very happy with the results. I ended up just using silicone after trying some Velcro that didn’t stick so well in the crazy heat we were getting. I didn’t try suction cups because I don’t have the headroom to spare. I think that finish you have would bother me. I bought a roll of black perforated faux leather from amazon for around $16-18 shipped. I think it looks better than the factory headliners.

Looks really good I’m sure it helps with the heat.
Being in Arizona I just ordered some limo tint and tinted the glass top
help with sun and heat and still got to use it for its purpose

I have one of the static cling thin vinyl type material ones that is perforated so you can still see thru it but it does block the direct sunlight and heat. I bet if you went to a craft store you could find a similar material and use it. I peel mine off every fall and then put it back on when it gets hot in summer.

I was lucky enough to find a one piece headliner from the parts for sale section for a great price. It was still in the plastic wrapping, so it was never used!!
Great job on making your own. That will indeed work.
