C8 pricing effect on our C6’s

C8 no love for the big guy
I was sure GM would take the opportunity with the mid-engine to INCREASE leg and shoulder room but here we go again, no love for the big guy! I stood down on the C7 because at 6'3.5 245 with size 14 shoes the cockpit is too tight for comfortable mid - long distant cruising. I know quit a few guys taller and bigger who were excited when the C7 launched who fooled themselves into thinking the tight fit would grow on them; i almost fell for it! For some, these C7s have become garage queens and driven only to car shows or short rides.
Without a manual option and the lack of interior comfort, C6s or even a C5s will be the only option for this buyer demographic. My guess is that the C6 gs, z06, and zr1 values will only experience the normal depreciation at worst , with clean low mileage cars maintaining their current values.

I think it will be a trickle down effect on the c6. The c7 has to take a big hit because of both the low price on the c8 and the outstanding preformance. If the c7 drops people will be forced to chose between a c6 and a c7 at around the same price. I think most would go for the newer car.

I think the price of the Automatic C6 and C7 will drop a bit -- Manual tranny'd Corvettes will keep their value and possibly increase over time. Glad I have 2 M6 Grand Sports and plan on keeping them until my legs cant push the brake pedal or clutch pedal. Then I will ask my kids to drive me around in a manual shift Sports car. -- anything else is just for Pussies

I would jsay the answer is "just look at the C5." My C6 is a wonderful car and I love it. That said, I may keep it: 1) should I be able to fit into a C8 and, 2) if I buy one in its second year of production (which I will if item 1 is true).

A used C6/Z06/ZR-1 (depending on year, mileage, condition) will still sell for well below $60k.
I am only guessing in/around mid 40s to low 50s at best. Maybe even lower.
Some people just cannot afford a $60k vehicle no matter how much they want to.
And honestly, I am in absolutely NO RUSH to off my C6 Z06 in Arctic White.
I have yet to see another Arctic White C6 Z06 on the road since the C6 Z06 was introduced.
At this rate, I am bound to see more Arctic White C8s than I will C6 Z06's. Hahahaha

This is an interesting post, because I bought my 2009 2LZ Z06 for less than $60,000. NEW.
They sure as heck aren't appreciating yet, and probably won't be in our lifetime. I remember an article I read years ago about Corvettes, and how owners (and their heirs) had a completely unrealistic view of what they were actually worth, and so the garage queens sat in their garages and didn't sell.

Totally fell into this deal. Wasn't even looking for a Z06 (was looking for a GS in a year or so), but was bored on a Saturday morning. I used to be a gratuitous test driver. The car had been sitting in the showroom for almost two years, and never even been driven. I pulled up in my '05 Vert, and said I wanted to test drive it. It had 4 miles on the ODO.
Went back and forth for a week on the price, and it was mine. Drove it for four years and 70,000 miles and only "lost" $18,000 in depreciation when I traded it in for my '14. Never a single thing wrong on the car.
That was a fun car! And probably the best depreciating asset I ever bought.

Would be nice and considering the lower production numbers than the C7Z this might end up happening.

I think the C7 will be hit harder. Folks looking to buy a C6 probably feel $25K to $30K is the end of the world for them. They could not reach $60k to $70k . But, if your goal is a C7 realistically, the C8 price point is within reach.

We have seen a lot of people say "I have to have one", but how many people are really willing to take on that 1000$ a month (or more) payment, or shell out 70k cash for one? Especially knowing that you could get more power from a c7z, and be faster, and take less depreciation? Gonna be honest, I dont think that many people who could do that decided to skip the c7 generation.
I will be the first to admit, a new c8 is out of my price range. I could make it work... but I'm not going to skimp on the rest of my life for it. I would be far more likely to buy a used Gallardo stick, or r8 stick, and at least know that someone else paid the depreciation for me. But truthfully, my next car is likely an Sti, maybe a new Supra. I am over the super expensive cars, everything is so fast now it's a moot point. Around town, an 80k+ c8 wont be any faster than a 20k c6 or c5. My ego isnt tied to knowing I can beat people at a stoplight, so why spend the vast extra money for something no more fun?
