My experience with Vararam- SOP, kinda hard to tell, you want to believe that $300 makes a difference... however, I did 1/4 mile runs with both.
Best 1/4 (me driving, not the best) stock was 13.27/114.
With CAI my best was 13.05 at... are you ready for it... 121. Was a stock LS2/M6, before headers & tune. I personally theorize that the optimum benefit is when the car is really moving, & that's where the flow improvement occurs. After headers/tune, with many more practice runs without my smoking the tires to crap, got it down to 12.47 @127. So no more $$ thrown at engine, baby needs an amp & much better speakers! And MGW shifter, after that just keepin her lookin pretty...

LS3 has a good intake. Unless you are banging gears at the RPM limits I wouldn't worry too much about air flow. The real purpose of a CAI is to get cooler air to your sensor, which will keep it from retarding the timing, thus saving some HP. Nothing that you will feel hat the seat of your pants, tho.
I have the KillerB with shroud and a VetteAir to guarantee that I will get fresh air, but with this combo you have to tune sometimes. I personally would spend the money on a street tune......that you will feel in the seat of your pants.
