Fobs and key
I'm going to look at a 2009 today for possible purchase. It is my understanding that the vehicle should have 2 fobs and one key, can anyone confirm this?

And further to this:
1) Insist as part of the deal that both fobs are included - replacements are expensive.
2) If you close the deal, verify before driving away that both fobs are programmed correctly - Fob labeled as #1 is recognized by the vehicle as #1, and fob labeled as #2 is recognized by the vehicle as #2. This will save you a bit of grief later if the fobs are not programmed correctly to start with. While it is true that you can probably program the fobs yourself by following the write-up on the this forum, this seems to be an area where some folks have difficulty. If you want to be extreme, get them to prove that the fob antenna beside the glove box is functioning correctly. This is your only resort to start the car if the fob battery dies and you have no replacement on hand (assuming you don't have the 2nd fob with you).
3) Test both fobs before driving away (test all buttons, and check to see that the fob is recognized from either side of the car to allow you to enter.
4) Test both keys in the hatch lock - you need to be able to open the hatch to get in the car if the fob battery dies, or something else is preventing the fob from unlocking the door.
5) If you want to be really, really extreme, get them to prove that you can enter fob programming mode by turning the key in the lock 5 times within 5 seconds. Refer to the fob programming procedure in the owner's manual. In some cases, owners have discovered that the wiring in the lock is messed up (for lack of a better word).
Just my .02 worth

The primary reason for insisting that the 2 fobs you get with the car are programmed to the car as fob #1 and fob #2 is for access to the car's memory options. Fobs programmed as #3 and #4 cannot access those memory options.

AND don't assume FOB #1 and "driver 1" are the same - the PO of my car made FOB #1 the driver 2 and messed me all up trying to program all the memory crap - I didn't have a FOB #2 to double check the memories

How does one know if fob 1 is #1 and fob 2 is #2?
I see the numbers on the bottom of the fob's as 1 and 2, but what you're saying is somewhere along the line someone could have hosed that up?
Thx

Thanks everyone for your input. I checked both fobs for locking and unlocking and starting, though not in the detail mentioned by Fats in post #4. I didn't see that post until just now when I got home from purchasing the car.

Well I think it happen like this: the PO received his new Corvette - took the 1st FOB handed to him and program "Susan driver 2" not realizing the FOB was #1, So when I get in the car with FOB #1 the seats settings changes to "Susan's" and reads out on the DIC "Susan driver 2" - FOB #2 was lost so I didn't have a way to get "Larry driver 1" settings. So I solved the issues by making both "Larry driver 1 & Susan driver 2" memory settings the same. I also changed the DIC to my liking.

That ship sailed about 13 years ago, so, at this point, take only one fob to your car and see which presets are available. (as said earlier, #3 &4 won't let you know). Then take the other fob and do the same. This should let you know if you actually have a #1 and/or #2. or not.

The answer to your question is yes. It SHOULD have two fobs, but that doesn't mean it will or has to. The present owner doesn't have to have two fobs before they can sell the car. I know several people who have bought cars with one fob and then have to bite the bullet and buy the second after the fact.

#1 fob worked yesterday then it didn't, replaced the battery and still nothing, the little green circuit board inside doesn't appear to be attached to anything, just loose. Looks like it has a lot of wear, the button to push to remove the key is missing. #2 fob looks unused and works great.

Yes, the board just falls out of the case. The key release button does break off pretty easily if your not super careful. Key should still pull out or use a nail or something to press into release hole.
