Default glove box latch snapped off this morning

Sure enough, I Went to the DMV to get my registration done, reached over to open the glove box and the latch shattered into 5 pieces. Anyone have any good hints on getting the glove box open without damaging anything?

I had the same experience . I was able to actuate the latch with a small blade screwdriver . Found a GM replacement part on Amazon. Save the lock cylinder from the old latch , you will be reusing it in the new latch . Easy to install. Check u tube video's . Hope this helps .

You can use needle-nose pliers to pull the small metal piece straight down to unlatch it. By any chance, is your interior cashmere? They seem to be the most prone to breakage.

Ok, how does the lock cylinder disassemble for the rest of the mechanism?

I am going to hydro carbon mine and have it out of the car but could not see an easy way to remove the lock.

Yep. Mine broke last summer. It's an '08. And strangely enough is also cashmere.

The lock tumbler is easily removed and the entire repair only took a few minutes.

I think I had to engage the key into the lock and rotate it to pull free from the handle assembly.

You Tube is your friend. I bought a replacement from Amazon. Only took a few minutes to replace.

Mine broke a few weeks ago and it was black. They are prone to breakage if you looke up old threads on this topic. I bought mine off eBay (Cultrag performance, Gene Culley) There is a YouTube video on removing the cylinder lock.

My '08 latch broke at 11K miles. The '08 Caddy lasted until around 70K miles. Been careful (aka not aggressive) since then. The Vette visor mirror covers are still good at 152K, but the wife broke both of the Caddy ones. You can tell who the vain one is.
