Any C6 owners ever own a Mercedes SLK?
I recently gifted my aging daily driver to my daughter. I have been daily driving my F-350 lately. I am looking to get a new daily driver and I spied a very clean 2012 SLK 350 at a local dealer. I test drove it and I quite liked it (not as much as my Vette though). My wife also liked that is was an automatic as she won't drive a stick. I am very tempted to purchase this for my new commuter car. Do any of you have any experience with these? I have never owned a Mercedes before. Thanks for any input.

If you do buy it make sure you get an extended warranty.
Those things cost a fortune to maintain and repair.
Just ask about the cost of an oil change

I have a great experience owning a mercedes. My current daily driver is a C63 sedan love it. Depending on age you can get a warranty I did Fidelity.
They are extremely reliable but when they break just go to Indy shop. Oil changes aren’t bad $130 at MB dealership with 9 quarts of oil and filter.

Just sold me CL500 coupe. My second MB. both were super cars to drive
better ride than my corvette, also not as quick, but very fast.
Cost of ownership for these cars in not cheap, so keep than in mind when buying. I will be replacing my CL with an SL550 next year.
Good luck on your search.

I had an E320 that I drove for about 10 years and sold with over 230,000 miles on it. Their V6 is almost indestructible. Just like with a Corvette, find a good independent shop (Bosch certified for these cars) to provide for your maintenance needs. I'd buy another!

A friend of mine owned a SLK-AMG and was pretty happy with it. No issues but another friend of his told him "You usually see girls driving SLK's but your's looks nice". He traded the car a week later.

I although I think was a 230 SLK. It was a four-cylinder turbo charged. Cruise very nicely had 110 to 130 mph. Picked up was good. Handled much better than my C6 and much smoother. Paid 12,000 kept it for about a year and 1/2 then sold it and could barely get $7000 for it. I did the old change myself. NP. It was a black 1999 which was the last year Mercedes stop making them then Chrysler took over and started making them. All around never had a problem withthat car especially with the top.30/24mpg GREAT

Gave our '03 E-Class to our kids 3 years ago with 130K, still going strong. Those engines are good for 300K at least. Now we've got a '13 turbodiesel (last of the V6's before the went to a 4). Roomy big sedan, 28mpg around town, mid-30s on the hwy. Definitely get an extended warranty though, and find a good indie. Things don't go wrong that often but when they do even the little stuff costs a fortune if you're used to American or Japanese cars.
Google around for issues with the roof warping and leaking on the SLK though. I recall something about it but don't remember the years involved or if it was the metal or glass roof. Typically extended warranties don't cover stuff like that.

I had a 2002 SLK32 AMG for about 3 years before I bought my C6 GS convertible.
I will say that I prefer hard top convertibles to soft top but that didn't stop me from moving to the GS from the SLK. The SLK was much quieter at 100 MPH. The trunk is absolutely tiny when the top was down, but I didn't usually use it as my grocery getter, but it was a nice daily driver.
Didn't cost any more than a Vette for basic maintenance. Oil changes were inexpensive if you DIY or go to an independent shop, a dealer would be outrageous. Nothing broke while I owned it, and the only other maintenance was tires and needing to lubricate the convertible top linkages. Roof never leaked. I got about 18 MPG combined, but the supercharged V6 and my lead right foot will do that.
If someone tried to tell me that I was driving a "girls car" I'd just shake my head slowly at them like they were pathetic.

I've got an e350 convertible diesel with 300BHP, it's actually really great to drive, every gadget under the sun and makes the corvette look 20 years old from a technology perspective. And despite it being 45 degrees and raining all day every day I've still driven the C6 to work every day this week

I had a 2014 C300 and that was a great little car, heck it even performed well (by my standards). if it weren't for the mandatory maintenance and $300 oil changes i may have kept it. and yeah SLK's are kind of chic cars but they do look sharp, especially the newer ones! my opinion, I'd avoid the luxury European cars unless money isn't an issue for you. with that said, my Benz was a great little car, solid and felt well built. Never had an issue while I owned it (then traded the Benz for an Audi Q5...which i just traded yesterday for my C6)
