Why did you buy a Corvette?

Burning Brakes
My dad had a yellow 73 Stingray convertible that he bought new back then for 6k. I was hooked every since. I still have a soft spot for the C4 model maybe one day I will find the one I want. Would only buy between 1993 -1996 models.

Bought mine when I turned 50 (in 2008). Always wanted one and helped ease the pain of getting old, LOL!
Enjoyed it as is was for 4 years and then wanted to turn things up. After all it is a sports car and I wanted more if that "seat of the pants" feel. So, headers, CAI, FAST 102, CAM and a tune later, my grin got even bigger.
For the money I spent I could have supercharged it and be even faster. My choice is confirmed at every light with the sweet cam sound and lope and the low end torque it gives.
Honestly my true enjoyment of this "car" dod not happen until I shared my interests with others. Since doing that I have made some of the best friends my wife and I ever had.
We do car shows together, multiple "cruises" each year, Carlisle and even the 2014 NCM Caravan.
Yes, the sound, lope and SOTP feel is great but honestly it would be much lees without a great group of friends to share it with.

Touched the wire screen !
I bought mine because I am an old fart who always wanted one!!
Will I ever race it - probably not
Will I add expensive HP increase mods?- Nope not in this lifetime!
I know a lot of you youngsters like to race, add stuff but that can get expensive!! I am also a bit of a cheapskate!!
Not my daily driver BUT I do like to drive it!! I put a whopping 4500 miles on it the first year i had it!!
I do like to read about all the stuff you guys(and gals) do to your car! I did add a Billy Boat exhaust to add a little more sound!!! my only mod!!

Mods are Magnaflow and K&N. Makes me feel about 10 years younger and puts a smile on my face when I see it, sit in it and drive it.

I have wanted one since I was 14 years old, and finally got one at age 45. I bought a base 3LT A6 car and the mod bug bit me. I figured lets make a car faster than a GS and and can run with a Z. I love this car it puts a smile on my face every time I start it up. It's not about the miles per gallon, its about the smiles per gallon !!

it's Americas only "iconic" sports car. What kid didn't dream about having one as a kid. Now on my 5th one.

My wife talked me into getting one back in 1984. I had always been a muscle car fan but maintaining one as a DD on airman's pay was getting tough. When I made E5 we decided it was time to get a more reliable car but one that still had performance. I was interested in the then new C4 but couldn't swing the payments. We found an 82 CE that was traded in and worked a deal. We haven't been without one since. On number 7 and number 4 is still with us as well.

In my case two simple reasons:
1. I always wanted one
2. Used to have a Triumph (car). Over the 10 years I owned it I did 100% of my own work, including the repair of a blown engine. (No rev limiters in those days) Some of the best times fixing and driving.
Now a few decades later I have a '05. Done few some small things, 2012 steering wheel, new HUD, MGW shifter, HeadLight Lenses and fixed a few "gremlins". So far 100% of my own work and a much much better sports car. Enjoying the sports car hobby 100%

i used to ride harley's and that got dangerous with all the texting and chatting while people drive so i traded for a c6 2012. i have added a few bits of chrome, had Lingenfelter add some HP (600) and its a convertible so i can let my hair blow like i was riding a harley.
I had to pay for kids college before i bought my first Harley. I put a wapping 1500 miles per year on mine.

Always like convertibles with plenty power. I got too old to keep the Olds up like it should be and passed it down to my son then bought the vette.

My second Corvette
I bought mind because the first one I bought, spoiled me. It was 1966 and I had just graduated high school and was looking to purchase my first car and wanted a sports car. I found a 1962 FI white on red with both tops for $1600. I so loved the car that I swore that I would never sale it, but marriage and the draft changed my mind so it had to go in 1969. In 2016 I purchased a 2013 Z06 60th anniversary model, it’s funny how every time I drive it I feel like 18 again.

Like many have said....lifelong dream for me. Really one of the few "tangible" things that I've ever wanted for a long period of time. When I turned 50, I decided to treat myself. In a family of 5 drivers (with a vehicle for each) I had always sacrificed and driven the "piece of crap car" in the family. Never minded much, just did it so my wife and kids could have dependable vehicles.
Beyond the lifelong dream..I figured it couldn't hurt to have a Corvette if I ever wanted to trade the wife of 28 years in for a younger model....Lord knows I'd need a Corvette or better for that to happen.

i also had a vette done in imron in white it was so bright you couldnt look at it in the sun, i always thought it was epoxy based... and hard and would take the flexing
Because, Corvette.
Seriously, though, I worked at a Corvette specialty body shop when I was 16. A few days after I started working there the owner tossed me the keys to a blown 67 that had been painted the week before, and told me to drive it around the block a few times to blow the dust off. We'd used what was then an industry-changing two stage paint of base and clear called Imron. The first gen of this was very soft after painting, and took some time to harden, so it could scratch badly if wiped with dust on it.
That's all it took to get me hooked. Talk about a fun ride.

Once it dried it was hard as hell, and would flex extremely well as it had been used on airplanes prior to its introduction to the auto industry, but the first couple of weeks you had to be very careful with it.

I wanted a two seater, non jdm, V8, sportscar, and the corvette was the only answer. It's affordable and IMO the best bang for your buck. I also love corvettes.

Lifelong ambition... Own a Vette
My dad had a 1961 Vette and had to change to a "family car" back in the early 60's as his family grew. What a sacrifice... and I know he's thought a lot about that all his life...
After many years of settling for "less expensive" sport car alternatives... thinking I was being prudent and fiscally reasonable, I finally fulfilled a lifelong ambition to own one when I turned 60... with an "Empty Nest" and a wife who said, "It's about time... just DO it!!"
Nothing radical done in terms of mods... just really enjoying my C6 as my "fun car" when I get bored with my DD.
It took me way too long... so my suggestion to others on the fence.... "Just do it!!!"

Heel & Toe
last year I set out looking for a practical 'hot rod' and the C6 fit the bill. Travel comfort, speed and fun. Never realized there would be so much support along the way, thanks to Corvette Forum.
