Legit way to go fast
Has anyone ever tried one of these events? Did you enjoy it ( I'm sure u did). How fast can u go? What equipment is needed I.e. helmet, extinguisher etc.
Id love to go just to see what it is like to go fast in a legit way. I'm talking more than 100 mph that is possible in Mexico.

Several years ago I went with the club to a charity event at Atlanta Motor Speedway. We got some laps that were "Paced" at 80 mph. I managed to hit 120 while some others managed about 130. It was fun, exciting and scary at the same time.
No helmet or anything else required other than a waiver. Mainly because they were "Paced".

That event looks like you go with a pace car, since they offer the choice of riding in the pace car. I have never seen an event where private cars could run unrestricted on a NASCAR track. I have ridden several times in several of my vehicles at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and always had a pace car. But this last time, there was a new rule!! No convertibles allowed on the track! No convertibles PERIOD, even if your top is up. your local rules may vary.

That'd probably be best for the OP, since it doesn't sound like he has much high speed experience. A bone stock LS3 should easily top 130.

The 1/2 mile events can allow you to go as fast as you feel comfortable. You can make as many passes as you want and some events allow you to ride in other people's cars. You're going in a straight line and there is no requirement to go at the maximum speed possible. It's really a great place to learn and most people are friendly and helpful. Take the wife/gf/or? along. One of them might surprise you.

Go online and search for local Corvette clubs in your area. They usually have track events for your liking. Trips to a local drag strip, Nascar style tracks and a variety of things all centered around the Corvette lifestyle.

Google HPDE.....High Performance Drivers Education. A variety of clubs hold HPDEs but the PCA (Porsche Club of America) and BMW CCA are at or near the top, especially for first-timers. They are all over the country and you will have an in-car instructor, many of whom club race and all of whom are certified to teach.
If you want to mix in some race viewing, NASA and SCCA often host HPDEs during their weekend club races. There are a variety of other clubs as well.
HPDEs are on road courses around the country. Tracks range from rough to professional (for instance in CA where I live we use ACS which at various times has hosted NASCAR and Indy events, as well as Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, etc).

Just an FYI, but when the vet is on a track on some events, your standard insurance may exclude such use for coverage.
You crash the vet and not covered, and your are responsible out your own pocket for not only the damage to the vet, but any damage to the track as well.
So check with your insurance since some may cover HPDE events, so long as they are not timed or competitive.
If your not covered under your standard policy for such, then you need to look into insurance to cover you during such times instead. Hence it bad enough being out of pocket for just the car if you crash, but you can do some speedy damage if you take out parts of the track that have to be repaired as well.
Just a primer for HPDE events insurance,

Sounds more realistic.

I've done it at Texas Motor Speedway. They are paced and the first time I was able to do 120. The next couple of years they slowed it down and about the best I could do was 90.

I wouldn't bother with that ...90mph! Driving to work at 5:30 am I'm doing 80/85mph and that's keeping up with traffic..

Check out Vettes4vets, charity event at Talladega speedway every Memorial day weekend. Did it twice and was able to reach 147 down the back straight. its paced as well as a chase vehicle but only 15 cars per session = lots of room on a 2.6 mile track. turn 1 is no joke and you have to look up to to see level.

Thanks for saving me the drive out there. Was considering this myself, but I'll pass if it's that controlled.
