What’s wrong with 2005 models
Having just bought a 2005 convertible 6 speed sight unseen, except for high resolution pics of course, I’m seeing that ‘05’s have some sort of inherent problems. Just what are these troubles? I know the first models of most generations have issues, but the ‘84’s are the only ones that had real design issues that I’m aware of. Tell me why I just bought a 13K mile junker.

You'll be fine.
Kind of strange to research a car after you've bought it though.

I'll be glad to take it off your hands! How's a $1000 bucks sound?

There are very few '05 specific issues, and most likely your car with 13,000 miles on it will have had those taken care of years ago. Most if not all problems at this point are problems that are C6 wide.
Do you have service records? Have you had the dealer (any dealer) run a GM Vis?
No reason an '05 can't go hundreds of thousands of miles, IMHO.

1. Flying roofs on many of the 5s & 6s.
2. Column lock problems on the manual tranny 5s.
3. Dead batteries due to not putting the manual tranny in Reverse before shutting the motor off.
I had 2 different 5s, one manual, one automatic. Never had any of these problems with either of them.

05 here and love it. Try to get a VIS report from a GM dealer, especially looking to see if all recalls have been completed. Check your fluids and see if they need changing, car is 13 years old now. If you don't know about the Ranger method of changing your clutch fluid google it and do it. Drain plug in rear diff is hard to get to on 05. I cut off a allen wrench to fit mine and use a box end wrench to turn the allen, look under there you will see what I mean. Enjoy the car there are plenty on here with 100K+ miles and still going strong.

Pretty much been covered by previous responses, except the one-year-only ecm. If you plan to keep the car for many years this could become a very expensive replacement. Just ask the C5 guys about this since their ecm's are getting pricey.

05 here....53,000 miles. Issues to date have included leaking radiator at plastic end cap, and harmonic balancer. Both items are common to all year C6 models. It’s ROCK like new and the build materials and electronics have been superb. Every CAR every year has potential for small to catestrophic failure. It’s the propaganda of the internet where guys with issues get noticed because of their posting. The total build numbers vs complaints filed on web sites like this....those percentages are miles apart

I just got my 05 and I'm a new guy on the forum, but I think one thing that is better on the 05's is the steering wheel. I think (my opinon) the 05 wheel is much better looking than the Chevy Cobalt wheel they used on 06 and up model.

As I remember from my first 05 C6 there was a issue with the harmonic balancer (not the normal one that affects all C6's) with the first (I think 11,039) 05's. I believe it had to do more with the pulley bolt backing out but I would have do some research, it's been a long time.

Check your tires for the manufacturing date. With only 13,000 miles on the car, its a good chance they are original, and if so, they are toast and need replacing.
