I have an iPhone SE, and if I close the sliding lid over the cup holders in my 2009 C6, it fits perfectly on top, with just enough room to plug it into a charger. Either way, it doesn't slide around or fall out under speed changes/cornering. I'm thinking of upgrading to the iPhone 8 (not the 8 plus), and clearly I wouldn't have space to plug it in any more, but I'm not sure if it will fit in that space at all. Anyone tried this?

No on the 8, since it too wide to fit into the cup holder itself.

So with either a 5 or SE, you can do the slotted hockey puck mod to have a nice phone holder inside the cup holder isntead.

any phone fits perfectly either in the console or in the shelf in the drivers door... depending on whether you're charging it or not.

The IPhone 8 is not too wide, it is too long to fit in the cup holder lid. I stand mine up in the forward cup holder with the lid open and let top of the phone rest against the **** on the dash panel for the passenger side temp control. My charge cord is plugged into the port in the console.

I wouldn't recommend putting a cell phone in the console for any extended amount of time. There is a chance it could overheat.
