I had a 07 Z06 with the RF's Goodyears and it would spin in 1st gear, but 2nd,3rd and 4th it hooked up and left the stang's in my mirror...You just need to adjust how you drive the beast.

I think I'm just disappointed because I was anticipating a real shock of speed/fun and was let down by the traction issues. It was in the high 60's, so not particularly cold either.

You need to roll into the throttle. I have a GS with I/h/e and a street cam running on crappy Goodyear run flats. In comp mode, 1st has a hard time hooking, and I'll get hopping in second from time to time, but nowhere near the issues you state. Even driving hard on the track. Ease into the throttle until you feel solid grip, then you can push it.

ALL summer, hi-performance tires harden with age. If these are the OEM tires, it is possible they have hardened and will be like driving on ice. There will be a four digit code on the sidewall showing the date of manufacture. Do a search here to find out what this looks like and you can then determine how old the tires are. Again, if they are OEM, they are 9 or 10 years old and definitely need to be replaced for safety.

I won't be going back to the dealer to look at the tires because I already made it obvious I didn't want it haha.

Yeah that's possible. I assumed my Twin Screw supercharged cobra would be similar with the instant TQ feel. But the NA motor definitely had a different feel/response. Also, the tires clearly just sucked lol. My Cobra had Nitto drag radials.

My guess is they are old Michelin Runflats, with not much tread left on them, plus streets are cold at 65 degrees, and if you don't roll into the throttle, you are going to spin.
Hard to compare a normal street tire with a drag radial. Not a fair comparison. Go drive a VW Beetle, then go drive the Z06.

Sounds like it was mostly a case of old crap tires! Hopefully whatever car I purchase has a decently sticky tire so I can really enjoy the power without constantly pedaling.

It's cold in CT, last time I looked. No summer tire is going to hook up well, let alone for someone who drove it the first time and pushed an unfamiliar car harder than he should have .

Spinning in first is totally understandable. But spinning so much after that while already going 40+ seems wrong. It's not THAT fast of a car to have traction problems of that extent. You would end up getting beat by a "slower" car because you can't use your power. Granted, this example is a car with stock suspension/tires not built.

I agree with you - I test drove an '08 Z06 before buying my '13 GS and didn't feel that much of a difference between the two. Combined with the head issue on the LS7, and the availability of the wide body via the GS, I passed on the Z06 as a whole. I will say I felt a little more 'special' driving the Z06, but that was it.

Yeah, if the tires are old or cold, you will spin in first and second. At least I do. And you need to roll into the throttle in 2nd for sure. If you gun it, the tires will break loose. Many drivers (perhaps not you) treat the throttle like a toggle switch. Either on the floor or let off. Very easy to break traction that way.
