Default Anyone in Austin, TX to look at a car?

Hi All,

This is a serious request for anyone in/near Austin that can look at a car that I already purchased. Yes, already bought and paid for and the car (2013 Z06/Z07) has only 150 miles on the clock. Purchasing from a reputable dealer but it sure would be reassuring to have an unbiased forum member standing at the car while on the phone with me.

The car is at:

Elite Motorsports
11906 Anderson Mill Rd.
Austin, TX 78726

PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

I have known SW for a long time. He sells nothing but top notch stuff. I would take a peek but honestly don't know enough to give a thumbs up or down unless it is something super obvious (and I'm a good hour or so drive). But honestly I would never hesitate to buy a car from him sight unseen. He has a shop attached that does some race prep stuff and a dyno as well. His detail guy is one of the best around as well.

Thank you - Yes - I have heard nothing but good things about SW which is why I already sent the funds.

But I paid some big coin for this Z and doing a bit of due diligence would be appropriate. I'm also super picky. I am a 25+ year ASE Master Tech and have also painted cars in the past. If there is ANY cosmetic defect, I will find it! And I know SW would make it right. But not so easy once the car is in Cali. Some reassurance would be helpful.

If you get down that way just let me know!

I used an inspection service to check out the 2014 that I recently purchased from Vroom.com (Texas Direct Auto) in Sanford. It was less than $150; well worth the money considering the problems that they found that were corrected prior to delivery. I am sure there is an inspection service in your area (or more than one). The company that I hired test drove the car as well.

This is the service that I used

https://texasfirstautoinspections.com/

The dealer fixed all of the cosmetic defects and replaced the driver's door sill plate and corrected the alignment based on the report that I purchased.

Good luck.

You found a 4 year old Z06 with only 150 total miles on it?

Do you have any idea as to who owned this car, and where it had been sitting for the last 4 years without being driven?

Very strange ...

The ad for this car says the MSRP was $104,685

The asking price from Elite Motorsports is $79,900

That's $24,785 less than MSRP

The car was only driven 150 miles

That cost the original owner $165 for each mile he drove this car ... not to mention the cost of maintaining insurance on it for 4 years.

What was he thinking?

Originally owned by a well known collector who passed away. Many collectors do not drive their cars (or just have too many) - good for me!

I actually live about 10 minutes from this business. They’re closed at this hour today. I haven’t seen Sriyantha (SW) in many years. He and my brother used to drag race their cars out at a local drag strip not far from Austin when we were kids. He’s a great guy as is his whole family. I’ve known them for over 30 years since I was in high school.
OP, when is the car shipping out to you? I’d love to go see it and visit with SW at the same time. His family used to have an exotic car dealership near our family business is central Austin back in the eighties. I didn’t even know his business was so close to us until I saw this post. I’d gladly go take a look at it on Monday morning but you might need to have some specifics for me to look into. I’m no car expert at all, but I can tell you that if there’s one dealer in Austin, Tx that you can trust, it’s SW. This guy is solid!

Thanks - I may consider this option.

After spending lots of money this month I was hoping to have a forum member in the area take a peak and save me a few dollars. Not much to inspect: paint, windshield, front splitter & undercarriage.

Reading other people’s post on the seller’s reputation, I wouldn’t be too worried it, but Texas is not a state that allows you a grace period to change your mind on a car purchase. Once you exchange $ and signatures, the sale is final. If you only sent them the $ and haven’t returned any signed paperwork yet, then you might have some room to reverse course if something is amiss, but then again, they already have your $.

Regardless of state, it’s prudent do the footwork before handing over your cash and/or signature.

Yes - sellers reputation is not in question. I have bought a bunch of cars - some out of state & some of those I have flown in to inspect myself. With less than 150 miles on this vehicle I am 95% confident about the purchase. But the other 5% needs attention so that is the purpose of this post. Thanks for the input.

SW is practically a legend in the street racing scene around here from back in the day.

But look, the car is already bought doesn't matter what it looks like you already own it.

I can totally relate about spending lots of money on a vette. Although what I spent on my 2014 pales in comparison.

I would run a carfax for sure. With the recent hurricanes there are hundreds of thousands of cars that sufferred from water damage. Many of these vehicles were not insured and so the damage may not show on carfax. You may want to have a dealer perform an inspection. There is a company called Centro that do inspections but they can be pricey. Open the doors and look at the seat tracks...looks for dirt or soot on top of items inside of the vehicle. Look under the vehicle and look for settled sediment on top of the structure or in the engine bay. Just good to be sure and not sorry later.
