help me understand the "flying roof" issue?
The back of the roof locks in with pins. Even if the back is not latched the roof cannot come out.
The front latches, when open, prevent the sun visors from sitting flush and I would think would be easily noticed.
To protect myself from such a mistake, is there something I'm missing? Are people overlooking the fact their sun visors are not fully up due to the front latches being open?
I would think it would be hard not to notice that.

Just make sure when you put the roof on the car it's one motion, set it on the car and latch.

I can tell you this, one undone latch on a C5 will cost you a roof...seen it happen
not sure about a C6 but I know you can sit it on there and not latch it and not notice it...and it doesn't take much speed to lose one

Not having the roof properly latched front and rear is one cause, but also wasn't the recall where the roofs actually separated the other issue? The top half of the roof separating from the lower latched half?

Basically, it boils down to people not being very attentive. Set the roof on the car coming in, but not get back in the car to latch it down or something silly like that.
IMO, for as expensive of a fix as it is, I just make damn sure it's latched. In fact I do it before I back out of the garage or parking spots.

That was on Z06s, the roof skin would peel off.

I've only had my top off a couple of times ... it's just too noisy to drive at any speed. Maybe it's just me, but the air pulsations drive me nuts. Probably wouldn't be as bad if you had one of those things that raised the hatch a couple of inches to let the air out. A true convertible doesn't have those issues.

I only take the top off 4-5-6 times a year, when it isn't too hot or too cold out.
Otherwise, I want the top on cuz I like my friggin' climate control and don't like wind blowing in my face. It makes me as mad as Old Billy does.
Plus, with a glass top, it's beautiful to look through on a nice day, or at night when the moon is shining.

It helps quite a bit. I never took the top off until I got this, but do more often now.

I use my removable top frequently. It makes me.wish I had a drop top sometimes, because it's so much faster to operate the roof vs take out the roof and store it. Not a big deal, but when the top is a billion degrees from the sun, it'd be nice.
Usually in just man up and deal with it.

This same basic advice is great for convertible owners too. I have personally seen two incidents where the drivers forgot to latch the top (it's only one latch) and the wind lifted the top suddenly and bent the frame. Expensive mistake.

Correct. There was an issue with the roofs delaminating.
And I drive with my roof off whenever its a nice, sunny day (not to hot, not too cold. And whenever I put the roof back in place, I make sure I get the pins in the receptacles on the B pillar and that I hear three solid 'thunks' when I do the latches.
