Default maintenance at ten year point

My 2008 c-6 has 36,000 miles on it and is coming up to the 10 year point. Any maintenance recommendations beyond those in the manual.

I've got a 2006 with 90K miles on it.
I've changed out the water pump, and flushed and replaced the dexcool and radiator hoses at 50K miles
Regular oil changes at 5K miles or once per year, depending upon the road trips. I usually change oil either before hibernation in November, or in the Spring depending upon the last oil change.
I've yet to change the A6 transmission fluid or the brake fluid, but that wil be done over this hibernation period.
Shocks were changed out at approx 50K miles, but I'm going with Bilsteins, also over this winter hibernation period.
Brake pads were changed at 50K miles (pads were still at leat 40%) , and the new ones are still well over 50% pad life remaining. I'll keep an eye out on those in the coming years.
I replaced the sway bar end links at around 50K miles as well.
I checked the torque on the rear axle nuts, and they are still at spec.
At 100K miles, I'll most likely replace the rear differential fluid.

At 36K miles, maybe a refesh of the old fluids, especially the 10 year old Dexcool. Clutch fluid if not done on a refular basis. may be a good idea as well
I'm sure you will get lot's of suggestions.

Good Luck in whatever you decide to do.

Curious to know how the Bilstein Shocks worked out. Are they rougher riding than the stock shocks? I have a base 2007.

I have the Z51 performance option which came with stiffer shocks from the factory. Since I lowered my car on the lowering bolts, I went with the Bilstein (B8) Sport shocks.
I remember when the OEM shocks were new, they were stiff for sure. The Bilstein Sports are stiff, but they don't seem to have that hard feel over bad bumps as the OEM shocks did.
Anyone that has replaced the OEM shocks with comparable Bilstein shocks seem to be satisfied.
The Base OEM shocks would be replaced with the Bilstein (B6) HD shocks for a comparable ride.

There are quite a few threads on Bilstein shocks on the C6 forum.

Replace the plastic grommets at each end of your shifter cable (or replace the entire cable). Those grommets will break soon and you will be stranded.

Glad you posted this One-O-Wonder, I'm at the same point, 2008 w/ 40,000 miles. I'm at least going to have coolant flushed and replaced, and check engine air filter (don't understand why they say 50,000 mile on engine air filter). Might also check engine belts.
Now I'm wondering about the shifter cable (A6), since that was mentioned?

Just went through my new to me 2008 with 13,000 miles on it. I changed out:
1. Anti Freeze
2. Clutch fluid
3.Brake fluid
4. Rear difff fluid
5. Oil and Filter

Original tires are next on my list to be changed.

Just check your fluids and rubbers mostly.
Fluids;
brakes, engine oil, transmission fluid, rear diff fluid, engine coolant.

Rubbers;
TIRES, hoses, bushings, belts.

Thanks for the post. My 08 is just about to hit 99k miles. I figured 100k and 10 years was time to consider serious maintenance. My friend who used to own a Rent-a-Wreck franchise said he was always more concerned about age than mileage.

At 10 years, my "normal maintenance" recommendation would be:
  • Coolant (for DexCool or any "long life" coolant, this should be second change)
  • Brake fluid (every 2 to 3 years, should be 4th or 5th change)
  • Clutch fluid (if applicable)
  • Probably Diff lube. (always do at 1st or 2nd oil change, then at 60,000 mile/5 year intervals unless towing or "heavy duty" use, then 30,000 miles/2year intervals)
  • Check hoses. I used to recommend replace all coolant related hoses at 10 years, but modern hoses seem to last longer, and I go 15 years on those now with no major failures experienced
  • Check for leaks or noise at water pump. If mechanical fan (not applicable on C6, but just covering it), check operation of fan clutch. Again, I used to replace summarily at 10 years/100,000-120,000 miles, but now I replace at 15 years/150,000-180,000 miles. I've had very no failures on newer (2000+) cars/trucks before that.
  • Check serpentine belt. If cracking or missing chunks, replace belt and all idlers and tensioners. This is another thing I've pushed to 15 years for summary replacement.
  • Spark plugs if platinum or iridium (10 years/100,000 miles) or second or third time on copper plugs (3 years/30,000 miles). Spark plug wires if applicable. (also dizzy cap, rotor where applicable, not applicable on C6).
  • Shocks are probably due for replacement. All other moving suspension parts should be closely inspected. If anything is loose, especially if there's shaking or wobbling, I tend to rebuild/replace all the moving parts.
  • On LS1 and LS2 engines (and similar), inspect harmonic balancer. If it's original, consider upgraded replacement. If it's original, inspect at every oil change and replace at the first sign of wobble.
  • I'd consider rubber (or flexible stainless) brake hoses replaceable at 10 years on a "sports car", especially if driven in any competitive events
  • Inspect all AC and power steering hoses, and for automatic transmission, cooler hoses, and for engine oil cooler, engine oil flexible hoses. Replace any that are even a little bit "wet" from seepage.
I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting some things, but I tend to be very thorough at the 10 year maintenance.
