The Governor of Florida Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in Florida. Be safe forum members. Irma is Cat 4 and they expect Cat 5. Some gas stations are out of gas near me. I'm putting up my hurricane shutters tomorrow and planning to drive north west out of harms way. Praying it shifts out to sea.

Hoping Irma takes a sharp turn north at Cuba and stays out in the Atlantic!

I share your hope. While the panhandle appears to be out of harm's way as of today one never knows where these things go. I also have family in Martin and St. Lucie counties that really don't need Irma knocking down their doors.

I hope everyone in Florida stays safe. I'm also hoping that this one doesn't end up hitting Texas. We can't take any more water in the Houston area.

People starting to buy in panic mode down here.
I went out Sunday and filled my gas cans got bottled water etc, then last night people were wiping the shelves clean.
Hopefully it will miss south FL, and turn north prior to FL, but then that would put the Carolinas in the Path, if it goes to the Gulf and turns then it puts TX and LA in the path. Not good scenarios in any direction.

I live in the Fort Myers / Cape Coral area of SW Florida. Looks like Irma could come right over the top of us.
I put a red arrow where I live in the photo below:

Unless it weakens considerably, there is just no good outcome for this one.
If it turns more Easterly, those of us along the Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina coast are screwed. If it goes straight through Florida and Georgia, they are screwed. If it turns more westerly and goes through Louisiana and Alabama, they are screwed.
If it goes to Texas it would be too terrible to imagine.

If it hits Citrus county,, it will be the first Hurricane to hit here in over 100 years.
We've had a few storms, but not a Hurricane. But that being said,, we are getting ready.
Water, food, fuel, cash, propain, etc. we don't think it will be a cat 5 by the time it gets all the way up here, but ya never know. The vett in safe in my fortified garage.

The news here has to keep breaking into TV shows to tell you we have Hurricane coming, so people rush out long line for gas, no water, and Home Depot is out of plywood.
So to my Florida members, be safe, and take care.

I evacuated northeast Florida and drove 200 miles to get well NW of hurricane Matthew. All important documents and photos were placed in coolers with wheels that went in my Tundra. Reserve a safe hotel room early. ATM’s and credit card machines may be down so gather plenty of cash.
5-day national hurricane forecasts are becoming very accurate within a swath of 200 or so miles. I’m a believer after experiencing the Moore OK Cat 5 tornado and saw what damage 1992’s Andrew did near my parents Homestead home. I pack steel-toed boots and thick leather gloves should I return to a home disaster. I’ll consider ordering a POD to be delivered to my driveway ASAP to have a safe place to sort and store salvageable items.
Contact family and friends in Irma’s pathway to encourage them to make the safest decisions. Nothing like a CAT 3 or bigger hurricane gaining on you in traffic jams with other drivers panicking.

Today I took a bunch of photos of the outside of my house and photos of all my furniture inside.
We are going to put up the hurricane shutters this afternoon ... I am going to take photos of the house with all the hurricane shutters installed, just in case my regular homeowners insurance or the government flood insurance that I have asks for some before and after pictures ... Just to be on the safe side.
I was thinking that I might put the Corvette on jack stands in the garage to get it up another foot higher, but the hell with it ... If it gets flooded, well then, it gets flooded. I will just have to deal with the insurance company.
