My C6 drought has finally ended:)

BE proactive here, minimally pay a couple c notes to have valves thoroughly checked by a competent tech familiar w/ LS7.
Really need to go to Z06, V4.
Read about LS7 & its history.

Valves/guide integrity's nothing to take lightly, know what a fragged LS runs installed? $$

I know about bad valve guides. I had a 4.3 POS in a 1989 chevy pick-up, she was a smoker for sure. Went to do the valve seals and those guides were real bad.
Believe you me I did some reading. I was 50/50 on a 2010-13 grand sport or 2006-13 Z06 because of the issue.

Unfortunately too many instances of a LS7 ventilating itself because a valve failed/broke, fell in cylinder exiting block.
275# of scrap aluminum.
Understand there's no documented 'symptom' when this happens.
Happened w/ low mile Zs on up, mileage-wise.
Not all, some.
At 57K so-far so-good here, V4; although, my stock LS7's covered by a GMEPP too.
LS7 frags, new LS7.
Highest quote for a replacement LS7 w/ labor came in at $25K, others claim it's cheaper and might be.
So, what's the aggravation/angst factor worth?
In the beginning I welcomed you to the C6 Z06 fraternity, now urging minimal action be a check of valves/guides.
*My only interest is seeing you get as much satisfaction from your beautiful Z06 as I've enjoyed for 9 years.
But believe me if I weren't covered heads would've been addressed, a long time ago by someone, somewhere even if I had to travel.

Q: How many 'new' 4.3s buy one LS7?
A: 4-5 or more.
LS7's magnificent in too many ways to innumerate, certainly among GM's greatest power plants; but, LS7 does have one alleged weakness.
Heads.
Feeling lucky? Willing to gamble $15-20K +/- a few bucks?
If so carry-on, your Z, your money and your time.

Remember you said present warranty covers up to $3K P&L?
$3K's ~15% of what one faces here in a worst-case scenario.
Why I urged you be pro-active w/ this head business, nothing to trifle & take lightly. It's real.
OK done my good deed for today.
G/L my friend, wishing you many miles of smiles in your beautiful red rocket.

I definitely would. I wasn't even comfortable buying a C6Z without the heads being fixed. I was too worried about the possibility of dropping a valve on the way home with it. Bought mine from a forum member last weekend and he had the heads issue resolved with AHP's heads. They seem to be the most popular option for fixing the issue. Best of luck!

Awesome car. I recently purchased my '12 GS from Criswell a couple of months ago. Spent a few hundred on a 2 year drivetrain warranty while there for peace of mind even though the issue being discussed is specific to the LS7. Most likely a waste of money but it helps me sleep at night since this is the first car I've bought out of warranty. Enjoy the car.

Congratulations on the purchase
You really cant go wrong with either a GS or a Z06. The z06 has the potential to be a down right naturally aspirated beast (once you get the heads squared away that is) putting out well over 600rwhp. On the flip side of that the GS has the potential to be a supercharged beast (without the need to be worried about heads).
They both are great cars and can be equally fun with the right mods. Just depends on what you enjoy power wise once you start modding (N/A or FI).

Congrats! Great looking ride. I'm relatively close to you as I am right outside of Annapolis. If you need any help with anything on your car just let me know. I will be glad to help if I can directly or I can steer you in the direction of reputable folks who can.

I got a full 5 year warranty on my 2009 Z06 last year (because it only had 6K miles on it), but I am still going to do the heads before the warranty even gets close to expiration.
