Default Time to sell the vette... feeler thread

Alas, it is time for me to sell by beloved 05 Z51. The car has 58k miles and is in great shape, no accidents, clear title etc... I've driven it daily since I bought it 4 years ago with and it's been a dream, best car I ever owned.

Unfortunately, I need a backseat to drive my kids to school in... latch system in the passenger seat works great for one kid, but not two.

Would appreciate thoughts on whether to trade it in at the dealer or try and sell it myself. The two trade in offers I've gotten feel a little low... but it's definitely simpler...

No input on used car prices- its such a hassle dealing with idiots I usually wind up trading them in.

Spend 6 mos trying to sell it car is just worth less.
Best of luck

You're probably looking at around $20-$23k.

I gave 17500 for my 05 few months ago with 88k miles , non Z51 MN6 loaded otherwise including NAV.
What have you been offered ? The KBB on them is pretty low , but the NADA is still okay.
Of course, dealers go by auction pricing.

Also factor in if you get a tax credit on the trade in value of your car on the new purchase in your state, in FL on $18,000 it would be a $1080 savings in taxes on the new car. Unless you are going to lease then it's moot.
I would check out Carmax too, to see a ballpark number.

If the car is fairly stock then you are better off trading it in rather than spending time selling private.

Dealers use Black Book. I've heard it's lower.

Carmax was suggested for a hassle free offer.

Not always the case. I'm assuming OP was offered 15-16k by the dealership based on the year. He can get 19-21k on the private market I do believe. Still outweighs the tax savings.

Yup.....waiting and wondering if someones gonna show. Then they'll try to low ball ya cause they've been watching too many TV shows where thats what all the buyers do. Then these days you have to wonder about what type of payment to accept so you feel secure but you don't offend someone. Yea ya take a hit trading it in but it sure takes away a lot of the hassle.....good luck.....

Thanks folks, slowstang was right on, dealers are offering 15k-16k. Taxes here are 6.25% so that saves me a grand... nada says "clean" trade-in is $18,500.

Will admit am leaning towards private given these offers. The few mods on the car are cosmetic (ZR1 spoiler, reflow carbon fiber interior) but make a nice difference vs other 2005s and not something dealers care about.

Totally agree. It's hard to let go of such a car for 15k. It is a lot of car for the money. What kind of car are you looking for as a replacement?

Speaking from experience? Recommending for simplicity or price?

Sell it to CarMax. Not the same, but when I needed to pare off my very high mileage Ford not too long ago, their cash price was right on the same level I would have spent time and effort to sell it for. Takes an hour or so for them to do their evaluation. Worth the time.

Blue book is accurate to , well blue book. I purchased my 05 z51 6 speed, 13k miles, excellent shape for 24k. Bluebook for the car was well under the price. I couldn't find a cleaner lower mileage car for less.

Yes, experience. It's a quick clean deal. You CAN get more privately but no telling how long or what adventures you'll have on the way.

Consider a stranger test driving your car. Let him go alone or you sit in the passenger seat with somebody driving a 400hp car for the first time? No good options. A local SoCal Carmax salesman (Ontario, CA) was killed last year while sitting in the passenger seat on a test drive of a C6.
Trade it in. Carmax is fair with their prices. You will heave a check in less than an hour and you don't have to buy from them.
