I daily drive my corvette:

Gas - Average 19 mpg vs. 23 in my 4 cylinder family sedan. Honestly 4 mpg isn't to bad for the mostly city driving we do. About the same difference on the highway just add 10 to each number.

Tires/breaks - I get the same breaks that go on my family sedan. $320 per axel at the shop I go to no matter which car I take (Granted the rotors are cheap solid piece rotors with no venting). Tire, yea those will cost you more. about $80 per tire up front and $160 per tire in back over the standard sedan with premium tires. Even more if you are use to getting economy tires.

Insurance premiums - I traded in a 2004 Camry w/150k miles for a 2007 Corvette w/ 35k miles. My insurance rate went up $12 a month. Would have gone up based on year and miles no matter what I bought.

Fending of the cougars - Yea, older folks flock to the corvette, no way around that. Bit awkward if your a millennial like me.

Oh and I forgot to add, the bonus is that no matter how bad your work day is, when you walk out to your car your day is instantly better. You just don't get that in the run of the mill sedan.

One more little piece of advise: stick with the solid colors like AW, Red, Black ect and avoid the tint coat colors for a high mileage DD. They will get stone chips and road rash. These will show up more on the tint coated colors and be much harder to touch up. I have had both types.

My car is AW with 184,000 miles. There are quire a few clear coat chips on the front but very few that went into the color coat. Would look much worse with a tint coat color.

This pic was taken with about 178,000 miles.

I was surprised to find that the insurance on my 2010 Corvette is slightly cheaper than my 2011 WRX.

I DD my Vette all summer and my WRX all winter. Honestly, for me the only real drawback to the Vette is the lower ground clearance. We have a lot of washboard roads here and steep hills.

I DD my '07 C6. ~55 miles a day (more if I take it to lunch some where.. or errands after work, etc..). Plus weekend drives. Been totally reliable. As others have said, tires are the larger expense.

Living in Central Texas, it's a year round car. Just have to be careful of roads and driveways, curbs in parking lots, etc.. as it does sit low. Otherwise, I have had zero issues with my C6 as a DD. I also had a C5 as a DD and had no issues with that either.

Vette seems to hold up well. Only issue for me is that I need to wash it weekly (or more often) as it needs to be kept clean!

I get 21 mpg overall driving. THe only downfall isee is keeping it clean. I wash mine about every 3-4 days.... But it only takes 20 minutes No downfall for me. Except snow days but you won't have that problem

This is the truth. A dirty sports car is like a neglected animal.

I just can't feel right about it staying dirty overnight.

I really didn't need too much convincing. The point about the 08-09 models is a good one.

I'm not concerned with resale value as I'm just going to use up. I estimated that over 7 years it would cost me an extra $5,000. That's only about $50 bucks. A month. It's worth it for the fun. And btw I'm Orlando.
I say hell yes buy it as a daily driver being your in Florida.

I pick up a 2005 vert, M6, mag ride, loaded with 90k. I replaced all fluids, tensioners, water pump and now harmonic balancer (chirping). The cars need basic maintenance but if you stay on top of it the rewards are worth it. I run 100+ miles a day from the lake to the military base. Best purchase I have made in a long time. I'm heading out for a run in the country now.

I put 30,000+ miles a year on my 2007 Coupe and I am loving it !!! I bought it for the weekend and after three months of having it I said to myself..."the heck with that, I am paying for it I will use it till it dies." So far no problem, runs like a clock. Any way cars were meant to be driven. Enjoy it my friend life is a one way street.

Drive the base and z51/GS. Determine if you want the smooth ride of the base car as DD vs harsher ride of the sport models.

Do it! I drive my car every day to work. When I drag myself out and uncover the car I smile. I start it. I smile more. My commute is at five AM so little traffic. Pleasure cruise. I even come home for lunch as an excuse to drive it some more.

I bought my 06 base a couple of months ago as a daily, and I love it! Traffic is much more pleasent in a Corvette. Lol. I would be hesitant in buying a GS or a Z06, just because the ride is stiffer. I don't know what your commute is like, but Nashville pot holes will rattle your fillings.

I'm going to do with the base model and perhaps stick with an 08. Traffic in Orlando is pretty bad. I work from home 1-2 days a week but the rest is driving all over town.

There's not a lot of difference in base models from '08 through '13 to be concerned for a DD. The big choices you need to make are M6 vs A6, Coupe vs Vert, and base, F55, or Z51 suspensions. Once those choices are finalized, pick a color you can live with on a car that the mileage and price fit your needs.

I bought my '08 to be a DD and touring car, so I chose the A6 Coupe with F55. I ordered CR with a black/white interior in a 2LT, because it fit my needs. Currently at 144K and still smiling.
