Valid point: Its only money. I have always said that I want to spend my last penny on the day I die. If I should run out of money before that, then I will just have to shoot myself.

I want to thank everyone for their feedback. After carefully reading everyone's post and deciding that some are knowledgable while others opted for the WAG System, I have decided to spring for 4 new Michelins and will sell the two back on CL. Feedback was very inspirational and interesting to read. I have researched this to death and have decided another couple of hundred dollars is not going to break me...at least not for now. TireRack here I come.

If you've checked out the price of the rear tires on Tire Rack, you'll see that you are talking about more like $900 for two rear tires. When I bought my '09 two years ago from a Chevrolet dealer it had Michelins on the front and the stock GYs on the rear. No problem whatsoever. I finally went down to America's Tire and bought a pair of matching Michelins about six months ago because I heard that the style of the Michelin RFs on the front of my car was being discontinued. The tires cost around $875 installed IIRC and I really hated having the GYs, which had lots of good tread, pulled off the car, but, in my case, it was buy now or miss the boat.

I'll never understand why people buy a performance car and cheap out in tires. What is the point of having a performance car if you are going to neuter it?

If your pinching pennies, another thing to consider will be the drop in mpgs with the Michellins. I had hankooks up front and continentals in the back. I was averaging 20 mpgs combined. Although the handling is noticeably improved, I'm averaging 15 mpgs combined with my new Pilots AS3 ZPs.

Safest: Buy 4 new tires
You're taking a risk: I've mixed tires before (not on a corvette) and not had a problem.
You're adding more risk: The better tires should go on the back. Since most people can handle oversteer better than understeer.
You're gonna have a problem risk: Mixing/changing sizes, tire construction, tire compounds (hard vs soft)
In short, don't do it. Will it work? Of course, it's just a tire. Will it work in an emergency driving situation? Do ya feel lucky punk, well do ya?
