OK, I will add one here.................. my 2nd car, bought it in '73 from a friend of my parents daughter, right after totaling my 1st car..............

drove it for a couple years as a daily, then it became strictly a drag car..... SS/A class...

man, to think how much they are worth today,
compared to the price I originally paid.....

this picture was taken in '73 at a tool shop here in the Motor City owned by another relative, where I spent many years working on other peoples vehicles to supplement my income............... daughter had it digitalized for me a while back.................

Very cool, that's the class I ran Earl Wades 64 Plymouth at Fontana in the late 60's. Ran around 120 mph 11.80 et's (see earlier post)
If I could just have back 3 of my cars from years gone by I could be a rich man

here in the Motor City, with the "Big 3" in all their glory, met and raced with a lot of the factory team guys............... my Dad worked for Chrysler for 41 years, so think of the Golden Commandos, Ramchargers, Mancini Racing teams............. I worked for Chrysler from '77 - Dec. 80 until lay-offs hit, in the transmission R & D lab, met a lot of those people then, know some of them still today.............. only difference between men and boys is truly the price of their toys!

depending upon the type of show, and the type of assorted vehicles being shown, a Vette owner of anything other than a C1, C2 or possibly an outstanding C3 should never go expecting to win anything....................

nothing against any of the Vettes, just the way it typically works out

Bob, maybe you need to stop in at Hammy's and ask Huskerman or Ruxy to get them for you.................

I hear what your saying and I agree but my question is when did the Chevy SS become a better or more desirable car then the Vette ? I mean even if you got a Vette the same year as that SS it still does better at car shows.

The 1970 Chevelle is the (in most car circles) epitome of the muscle car collector I would assume, EVERYONE LOVES THEM although it appears to me that Mopars bring more money of the muscle car era.
Just my humble take on it

Default Bought New

Bought my 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge new off the showroom floor when I was 18 years old and paid cash for it. I have owned it for 48 years with about 65,000 miles and it still runs like new. 100% stock. We had some great times together over the years.

I'm sure you all have seen the photos I have posted before of this car I used to own. It was a fun car to drive for about 10 minutes and then it just wasn't that fun anymore. It was a beast and used a lot of gas (5mpg). My C6 is way more comfortable, reliable, and fun to drive without fear of something breaking.

I'm talking one that is close to a pro touring example. I know the cost is ridiculous, more than a very nice C6 but it has always been a dream of mine and if I come out ok with my surgery I am going to see what I can do to make it happen. Let me know your thoughts as I respect you guys. Did I really just say that? Merry Christmas all.
Building it yourself is very expensive. Start scouting the auction catalogs and see if you can find one you like. Can usually buy for dimes on the dollar. Friend of mine built a very stock looking, except for the tubs, 69 Camaro for his daughter with auto/air/pw/ps/pb (4 disc) and a 730 hp 572. Put fuel injection on it and you could probably afford to drive it quite a bit. Look around, they are out there.

I don't think it's about the SS being a better car. Obviously it isn't. But I see C6's often. A beautiful 70 SS chevelle restomod almost never. The chevelles I see most of the time are very average in appearance so it would have to be a car that really turns my head and restomods do that for me. But the cost probably will prevent me from having one. Vettes are cool. IT's whatever trips your trigger. meant to add also that it would cost less for a more modern day musclecar (camaro, mustang, challenger) Than to pursue a 60-70's example. And they are turnkey ready. Just don't have the same " IT" factor to me.

After a lot a fun for 5 years it got old not being able to take the car out for just a quick run to dinner or to enjoy a smooth/air conditioned drive with my wife. I went back to a Vette. I drive it more often and enjoy the ride. Powerful yet sophisticated. I will get back into a muscle car just not so over the top. More enjoyable and stock. Watch Mecum or other local auctions, you can pick up a well done pro-touring car half price of the cost to build. Good luck.

Beautiful car...
