Default Connecting Battery Tender

I just purchased a Black & Decker 2A battery tender and it came with three different hook ups, aux power plug (cigarette lighter) "O" rings and the standard battery cable clamps.

My intentions are to use the aux power plug but if for some reason I should opt to use the standard clamps is it best to use the recommended alt. battery lugs for jumping off or can they be connected direct to the battery without fear of damage or explosion.

At 2A there's no need to be clamped directly on top of the lugs. The insulating covers on the OEM battery cables don't afford a good place to attach additional wires, either. And even if they did, it's tidier to tap in elsewhere.

I'd use the terminal on the side of the fusebox and a ground on the right frame rail.

If you want to hook up the clamps directly to the battery, you can.

Better option would be to hook up the O-Rings to the batter and you can plug the tender into that. That's how I had my 2005 setup. On my 2013 I use the cig lighter.

I use the cigarette lighter socket for my battery tender, never had any issues

The clamps and lugs do the same thing but both require getting under the hood. This is fine if the car is not driven often or driving it is a special event that you prepare for. Using the cigarette lighter plug is easy and works the same. No getting under the hood, I just reach in and unplug from the console and drive away.

I connect mine directly to the battery on the C6 and my other vehicles. Been doing it that way for many, many years.

I use the cigarette lighter on mu '05.....works great. Since we had such a mild winter last year I got to drive it often. The lighter was quick and easy to connect and disconnect.

If you look on the bottom of the door opening there is a slot that is just right for the battery tender wire. Ctech makes an awesome battery tender made for the corvette.

O rings is how mine is set up. Lower the hood down to where it just rests and not close all the way. Been doing that 3 years without a problem.

I've had a "battery tender plus" since 2005 and have used it on 4 vettes. I connect mine permanently to the battery lugs and thru the back of the hood, above the battery. When the cars being used I tuck the cord inside by the battery. When it's in my garage it stays plugged in. I've had problems plugging thing into the cigarette lighter as they tend to pop out whenever they feel like it. I use the alligator clips to recharge the battery in my riding mower if needed.

I always run mine across the battery terminals. For some reason I never liked the idea of charging the battery through the cigarette lighter. But that'should just me.

I like using the alligator clips and connecting directly to the battery (positive cable). I connect the negative clip to a good ground (like an exhaust manifold bolt).

So, what's the "O ring method"? I've never heard of that. Thanks.

As the name implies the are two connectors that are just that "O" rings. You have a positive one and a neg. one and they connect to the battery accordingly. Just remove the nut from each battery cable and put the O ring on and put the nut back on. Then when you are ready to go you just disconnect the cable at the inline plug in point, leaving the O rings in place and you are ready to go. Replug when you return and you all set. The O rings are left in place permenantly.

My battery is in the trunk. O rings connected to the terminals. When not in use I disconnect the cord and stuff into the battery compartment and close it. When in use I run the cord where two pieces of weather stripping meet and close the hatch without a problem.

Since when are we calling them "o-rings"...sheesh. O-rings are rubber and are used for sealing things not carrying electricity.

"Ring terminal" is the proper term.

I blame marketing people. This is a screen shot from the product page on Amazon.
