2005 issues?
Are there any serious mechanical issues to be aware of on the 2005 C6? I've heard something about the rear diff and other gremlins. Is there anything truth to these "stories" of staying away from the 2005?

If you don't race the car, the rear diff is a non issue. If you have a manual, you need to leave it in R when you shut down to avoid battery drain.
There is one more thing, but I can't remember right off. There is always one more thing.
Oh yeah! Column lock for the manual.
Pretty much every other thing is a C6 wide issue, not '05 specific. The electrical gremlins are for the entire C6 run.

Thank you. Deciding between really low mile 2003/04 or a 50k mile 2005/06. I'm in the auto trans market due to a trick knee. Appreciate the input!

My 05 Manuel, with headers exhaust and intake is awesome. Has the zl465 package from slp. If you are not building the car for big big horsepower than the rear diff is fine. I have had 0 issues with mine but it only has about 13k miles lol. The car has to be turned off in reverse but it is just a habit to make sure its in reverse, i dont even notice it. Find one with low miles and enjoy. Awesome cars.

I have owned an '05 since the day it was born. I've never had any serious issues other than those induced by my continuous hobby of going faster.
That being said, an AT '05 is fine, but I would recommend buying the newest C6 I could afford.

Park in reverse is only for manuals so that won't affect you, however I've read hundreds of posts on the auto shifter cable breaking and leaving the owner stranded. Not just on '05s but all years. Seems like a much more prevalent problem.

Not really. For 05 the A4 was upgraded and beefed up to handle the additional HP and torque. It is pretty much bullet proof. Aside from needing the balancer replaced my 05 has been perfect.

Depends on your preference. 05 autos are 4 speed, which I prefer. A6s are only hundredths of a second quicker and all that shifting is something I don't like. The power band is fine for a 4speed, auto or manual. Also 05s don't have the throttle retard or delay, whatever you want to call it, and are more responsive without adding aftermarket throttle controller Also you can get a Z51 without the wide body, which I like also. That being said, most of the things I like are the opposite of what is commonly liked on this forum and it's probably smart to buy the newest car you can afford. My 05 has 194K on it and still runs like new.

As long as you do routine maintenance the 05 should be good.
I've had a lot of electric problems as of late with mine.
I think the 6-speed transmission should have a modified shifter because factory it's like driving a 1960's dump truck, it's very sloppy and don't get me started on the 1st gear lock out when your on steep f'in hill.
At around 69K I've had to replace the AC condenser/motor (never use the damn thing either)
Make sure if you store it in the winter to bring it to a reputable dealer/mechanic to reset all of your electronic crap when you get it out.
Don't slack on maintenance. It's expensive to own these cars. I wish it were as easy as my Chevy Cruize

C5'S are beautiful cars and the LS1 is great (I've owned a M.Y. 01), but the LS2 blows the doors off the LS1 big time, if you're into power.

I would buy the 2005 all over again over the 2004.
