Sounds like the dealer offered you a good price for the car if you want to sell it, nothing like an easy sale and not having to worry about advertising, showing it to prospective buyers that may want to abuse it, or dealing with the tire kickers. And knowing they have the funds readily available with no worries about bad or ficticious checks, I don't know if there are any tax benefits though as this appears to be an outright sale with no new or used car purchase, but i'm not a tax expert.

I know how you feel. I cover mine after driving "it is black" so it is only what I call clean for about 20 minutes after washing. As for waxing, I can't do it my shoulders won't stand for it. I had mine detailed and with the little I drive it, it gets washed about once a month! Other than that, try a "California Duster", it works pretty good! Or you can do like the guy in the other post said, find a brushless car wash. I had a 1985 model for 12 years and I drove it through a car wash many times because I could not wash it in the Winter and it was my daily driver. It held up very well for those 12 years!

So I went to the chevy dealer to check out a price for a battery for my car and the used car manager offered me $42,000.00 for my car. Tried to talk me into a new one but said I wasn't interested. So he asked if I would sell it outright for a decent price. That's the figure he came out with. Contemplating selling it to him because I can't keep cleaning the damn car every time I drive it. As I explained once before, I have the damn spinal stenosis that does me in. 3lt A6 with just around 5300 miles on the clock and a clear bra on the whole front half way up the hood. Car retailed at $72,400. new. So I have to ask, good price or not?

I ran your car through KBB.com with the assumption that it was a Grand Sport with 3LT and the CE package. KBB puts trade in at 44,943 in excellent condition and 44,069 in good condition. At 5,000 miles I would think excellent would apply and the range for a trade in is 43,194 to 46,691. It appears with these numbers $42,000 is low? This and I usually find KBB numbers as being on the low side. Call you bank and ask them what price they have, it will the most accurate.

I've never seen KBB buy a car either.

Both Right
You are both absolutely right! KBB is only a ballpark guide! When I was in the business "GM Dealer", the only cars that we bought used were Trades that the Used Car manager priced using the "Black Book", or cars that were purchased at the Auction. The only reason that I can even come up with where a Sales Manager would just up and offer to buy your car is that He has a buyer or that He wants to do a trade! We had a few come in and want to sell their car but I never witnessed a buy!

Me either, but I stayed at a Red Roof Inn last night. I don't think there are any tax implications of converting an asset (the car) to another asset (cash) unless he sold the car for considerably more than the combined value of his original purchase price plus any significant expenses. The dealer will have to pay the state sales tax, if there is any, so no, there isn't any income tax impact for the seller.

^Dealers don't pay sales tax on cars for resale.
Edit: beat me by a minute.

For a "no hassle" sale like that, if you're thinking about selling, take it & run.
Look in the "for sale" section at all the Vettes sitting with 100's of views for months at a time & then ask yourself if you want to be "that guy".
That's a great deal from a dealer.
