I think my dealer is full of it...
I took my 08 C6 Z-51 with 24,000 miles to the dealer for recalls and the "service active handing" message that comes and goes along with a shake or jolt that feels like the brakes are being applied quickly. Weird. Anyway it's all covered under my extended warranty, but then the service advisor tells me I need all new brake pads and rotors in all for corners. He said that's what the vibration is that I feel under braking. What vibration? I never had an issue with vibration under braking. I know when my rotors are warped and that's not at all what I'm experiencing. He said it's a separate issue. Do they just pull this crap out of their you know what? I think they do. $1,800 and some change. Get outta here! My brakes work fine and don't pull to any side or vibrate. I'll have it checked by a performance shop, but I'm not taking a dealer's word for it!

Your pads and rotors may have been good when you dropped the car off, but once that young guy back in the garage took it for a test drive and did a bunch of panic stops from 90mph NOW THE ROTORS ARE WARPED AND THERE IS A VIBRATION. Never, never, never, leave your car in the hands of a dealer and his band of workers that can't even get oil changes right on these cars.

In all honesty you said the word brakes and he latched onto an easy "fix" to suggest and hoped you didn't know what was going on.

That was one of the things I just had done on my car (2005) for the same exact symptoms.
They said it was a bad steering wheel position sensor and replaced it.
I do not know if it worked yet because I have not yet performed the maneuvers that cause the Service Active Handling message and ABS application which were 1) A simple U-turn at a green left-hand turn light (it was really a very mild turn) and 2) A right hand turn into a parking lot followed by an immediate left turn.
So I need to go do those two turns and see what happens.
According to the receipt, this issue was due to a code C0710 which indicated the steering wheel position sensor.
Service Active Handling can't possibly come on due to worn brakes, right?!?!?

At 24K there is no way you need pads, much less rotors. I have a '10 GS with 42K. And, the brakes are still good. No low pad warning, no problems.

The Z51 J55 HD pad wear out fast (very aggressive pads that have great initial bite and feed back, with a higher working heat range), and I had to replace my pads around the 30K mark. As for the rotors, there was enough meat left on them that I just ended up having them turned to clean them up (yes, you can turn drilled or slotted rotors, just need to make sure that they are using a dampening ring or pads to prevent chatter during the cuts, and will be a little extra to turn the rotors since you can take deep cuts in a single pass isntead).
Hence the rotor has enough meat to turn them at 30K, but when I do the brakes again at the 60K mark, not enough meat on them to turn them again, and will have to replace them then.
As for the dealer/ most brake shops turning the rotors, not going to happen, so will need to do the brake job your self isntead if the rotor have enough meat to turn them.
My tuned rotor with new HD pads with just a few K on them after doing the brake job a while back.
And will bring this up, if you change the HD pads with the standard JL9 Base type pads (will fit the J55 calipers), the brakes (pads and rotors) will last longer, but your will be giving up the added heat range of the HD pads, as well the better initial bite and better feed back as well.
Hence the J55 HD pads where designed for auto crossing, and why they have a higher heat range and better bite and better feed back than the base pads isntead. There are some after market pads that do have the bite and feed back of the HD pads for street apps that will not dust as much, but they don't have the added heat range of the HD pads isntead. So if you are going to get after market pads, make sure you look close at there specs and that they are in the heat range that your going to be running the brakes.

Especially good points by Dano on brake pads and knowing more than "it dusts less." Not sure I'd do turning of rotors, but it's possible.
