"When you pay peanuts, you sometimes get monkeys". Can be true of insurance companies. If they give you any back talk, start with a call to the state insurance department, sometimes it provides a really solid nudge to the claim process. If the agent has binding authority from Geico, and issued you insurance cards, the policy is typically considered in force until a cancellation notice is issued by the company. The grounds for cancellation can be for non-payment, but usually not the case when you have not even been billed yet. I think they will get it straightened out pretty quick under the circumstances you describe. Print out a screen shot of the policy declarations from the web site, pay particular attention to the effective date of coverage, be sure the car was added effective on the date shown on your insurance cards (and before your accident!) I hope you get it squared away, good luck and keep us posted.

sorry to hear about your car, regarding the insurance if you did not give them a rubber cheque nor the payment from the bank got rejected then I would say you should be covered

Just got off the phone with GEICO, they fixed the mistake and put my car on the policy for the effective date that it stated on my insurance cards. So the claim is going to be covered by them. Now I just have to wait for the process of getting the inspector out here to look at the car and the wait time for it to be fixed.

I told them I wanted it repaired at Jacks paint place in Converse. They've been recommended to me before and I've read good reviews about them. Anyone here have any experience with them?

And thanks everyone for the kind words and wishes

While following this post, I wonder if automatic withdrawal of payments is a good idea. At least with a letter requesting payment by a certain date you get confirmation of the cars on your policy. This could have ended badly with the insurance company. Lawyers and court costs would have cost more than the repair. Good news they covered it.

Great news that Geico is covering the loss!
As for where to repair:
Be aware that, at least in my experience, you can have the car repaired at the shop of your choice. However, the insurance company will have their repair estimate and that will be what they pay baring unseen damages.
Generally, your insurance company will not pay diminished value on a claim like yours.
Good luck.

Is there any deductible on this type of claim? I ask because I ran over a road gator and was wondering if it is worth claiming (if even possible).

Depends on your policy but usually $500-$1000 deductible.

It should be a comprehensive claim if it flew off another vehicle and was still in motion. If you hit an object that was stationary in the road, it would be collision.
