Default Proffesional detail shop price?

OK I went to a detail shop today, the guy said he would wet sand, and apply a special high dollar sealant to the car, clean the interior, clean the engine, pull the wheels off apply the sealant to the wheels inside an out, buff any fine scratches, remove any and all swirl marks and have the car show ready all for $300 bucks. Do that sound like a deal? he said normally that would cost $600 but he also wants to make a video to show what all he does using my car.

Sounds like a fair price to me, especially since he is pulling all of the wheels, etc.

Sounds too cheap to me especially with a wet sand (even at $600) unless he's just doing a spot here or there.

I've been looking to have a full paint correction done to my car, and I've had quotes from $700 to over $1k.

No, but......what do you know about him, his work and his business?

I suspect when he says wet sand, he's only talking about a few spots. A full wet sand is usually in the $2000+ area. Proper paint correction for a full car is generally $400 - $800, at $50/hr.

If he has a good reputation then you're getting a heck of a deal but not a full wet sand for orange peel. I'd be suspicious but probably worth checking into, do your due diligence.

Sounds cheap. Wet sanding can go horribly wrong in seconds, I'm sure you know that. A full wheels off, paint correction and coating around here (Houston) is $1000 easy.
Make sure you know his work.
Keep us posted.

The $700 quote was just to do the paint and nothing else. The quotes for over $1k were inside and out, including under the hood and the wheels.

There was another blue c5 that he had just finished buffing and it looked flawless. I just hope he doesn't buff my stripes off.

I would ask if he has the instruments that can measure the thickness of the clear coat before wet sanding. A good detailer would do this before hand to make sure there is in fact enough clear to get the orange peal out. If you go with this shop, I would hope he has the experience and is not using your car as a tester....

That sounds extremely low to have all of that done.

NOOOOOOOO not a tester, he has been in business for awhile now and has been wanting to do this video for some time now. He saw my car and thought it would be the perfect car for his video.

I had prices from a real expert. He details cars for the Barret Jackson auctions. He charges $800 but he is very well known for his work. He works next to auto geek in Stuart Florida. He is also at some of the classes that Mike Phillips teaches to help instruct. He takes 3 days and make cars look

For all of that work for $300 I say something is extremely fishy. There is no way I would trust that guy. So this guy is going to wet sand the entire car, thats a minimum of 6-8 hrs right there done correctly, then you have to rotary compound the whole car and then polish out the car again. Then pull the wheels and then do the interior. Yea right, $300?
