It's to remind you and/or your passenger to fasten your seatbelts. It should go out once you fasten them. But that's not your seatbelt light, that's your airbag light ... I believe when stays lite, it means their may be a problem/issue with your airbag system ...

That's the Airbag Readiness light. It's not supposed to be on. See pages 5-16 and 5-17 from the Owner's Manual.

There may be some fault with the airbag system.

Others are correct, Airbag light.
Ideally the ECM will direct to the issue, bad module etc & replacing it fixes the problem.

However there's a member whose ABL w/could not shut-off. Was an issue from the start, IIRC.
Guy tried getting it fixed, under warranty, w/ numerous dealers. Nothing. Would simply not work, eventually dealers just shrugged & blew him off.

Complained up GM's ladder. Nothing. More brushoff.

Infuriated he started a thread looking for C6 owners /w similar ABL issues, a fair number of C6s showed-up. Surprised me.
He directed them to a NHTSA site dedicated to this issue, it is a safety issue.

Can't recall member name or NHTSA#, but, there's one out there, just do a few searches both here & WWW. Something on this will turn.
Hopefully it's a failed component since it sounds like this just happened, it used to work. G/L

I purchased some fleece seat protectors to put on when I took my C6 to the dealer.
They slip over the seat back and cover it and the seating surface. On the way back from the shop I noticed that light was on. Since a hadn't noticed it staying on before I checked the OM and like a previous comment said it is the seatbelt ready indicator that if everything is working the light will go off. The seat protector covers the side airbag and when I removed the covers the airbag light turned off.

I had the same issue and I did the zip tie fix. This was about three weeks ago and it has worked ever since.

Excellent.
Made the mistake of assuming connector had been addressed, already.
Several years back that connector (& fix) was the only thing people seemed to talk about. Yea, a loose one'll trip an AB lamp.

Had the same issue and it was the connection under the seat too. At least it was a cheap and easy fix.

My 07 just started the airbag on and off thing about a month or so ago. Disconnected the bat and took seat loose and pulled apart both connections reseated and zip tied them both. Started up drove in the driveway still on. Left it for a couple hours started it up again still on, left running in the driveway and started messing with the connection's nothing still on. Then got up walked to the garage came back and it was off. Went for a quick drive around town still off. Who the hell knows. All I do know is not taking it to the dealer for parts changing on my dime. GM should figure this out and fix it. I did file with the NTSC. Good luck everybody.

The lamp means there's a trouble code stored in your airbag module. You need a Tech 2 or other GM airbag-aware scan tool to retrieve it. Generic scan tools won't do it.

Thanks torquetube, I guess if I have to take to the dealer for something else I’ll have them check for codes.

As long as the light is off, the system is functional. Some codes get stored longer than others. Some only last until the problem is corrected and some last for a number of ignition cycles or specific length of time.

Check the plugs under the seats. They can come loose.
