The Ten Year C6 Report

All is well with mine, only 35,000 miles. I'm the original owner.
Actually,as in your post, I like my C6 and see no point in getting a newer one.

I love the look of the c7 yet I drove one and felt it was pretty much the same car....
The c7 z06 is more than likely my next vette.
I'm in no rush though.....my 95 k mile corvette still looks brand new. People still give this thing thumbs up and tell me it's a cool ride....and most importantly I enjoy driving it...especially with the small interior mods I did over the years along with the cow booster...
The one bad thing about the cow booster on my c6 manual is it made me think the c7 manual without the cow booster had me scratching my head going wtf....
I think it was a hundred bucks installed a few years back and it really made the c6 come alive..(remaps throttle response)
I put the dsv d shaped wheel with new leather....and I spent 40 bucks with southern car parts to have my gm tech put inside the drivers seat...made the seat feel brand new...
I'd recommend anyone keeping the c6 to consider these mods as they make me very happy to continue driving my c6....
He'll it tops out at 190 mph which I never do...goes from zero to 60 mph in four flat which I enjoy quite often...and handles at 1.0 lateral cornering g...
I take the roof off all summer long as well as most of the spring and fall...
I think I average around 17 mpg with mixed driving.

Thanks for the write-up. I enjoyed reading your experience as I have a new to me 2006 with about 27,000 miles now.
Your car seems to have been rock solid for you. I also just recently changed my shifter cable end (shifter side) (on my own). Too bad about the cracked radiator support and wonky harmonic balancer which seems to plague all C6 Corvettes. I'm not looking forward to having to fix those when they inevitably go bad.

Nothing wrong with keeping the C6 for a while longer and enjoying.
IMO the C6 will likely age better than the C7. I think to some degree, it already has.

Very easy (but maybe a little time consuming) to fix your yellowed headlights yourself.
1. Start by taping off the headlight.
2. Wet Sand horizontally with 220 grit sandpaper
3. Wet Sand veritcally with 600 grit sandpaper
4. Wet Sand horizontally with 600 grit sandpaper
5. Wipe several times with rubbing alcohol (headlights will now look VERY cloudy and rough, dont worry)
6. Cut apart several large trash bags and tape them over the front of your car
6. Spray automotive clear coat with UV protection over the headlights, follow the directions on the can. (the clearcoat fills in the roughness and will look crystal clear after several coats and drying time)
Headlights now look as good as new and should last several years.

C6 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
I appreciate the long term assessment!

Great story, also similar to mine. Bought my 2008 3LT F55 6M Victory Red Coupe with every intention of selling it in three years and getting a C7 (with NCM delivery). Three years have gone by and I have no interest in changing. I'm just very happy, despite the little (expected) gremlins. I take such good care of it inside and out that the uninitiated ask me if it's new.
Gonna hold on to her for a while longer, methinks.

That's nice to hear as my 06 3LT vert is approaching 85,000 miles with not one needed repair. The HB is quiet and true. Maintenance items only. This was taken a couple weeks ago. Not bad for ten years old...

Is this something I can pick up at Wal Mart or Auto Zone "automotive clear coat with UV protection over the headlights,"

Had to chime in . . .
Owned my 06 Coupe since 07, purchased with 11K miles.
Still love the car, the 6 six speed auto coupled to the LS2 engine makes it an incredible pleasure to drive, always smooth and responsive, at any speed. MagnaFlow exhaust is the only real mod, even the wife likes it!
Also owned a 96 C4 and a 2000 C5, both nice cars, but the drive-ability of the C6 puts it in a class by itself.
Drove my friends C7, nice, but not enough of an improvement for me to consider upgrading.
Just saying . . .

2021 C6 of the Year Finalist - Modified
I also agree with your assessment of the C6. It has been reliable for me as well and even my wife commented the other day on what a good looking car it is......coming from her who is not a car person, that was high praise indeed.
Very few cars if any these days make me want to own one and only the C2, C3 Corvettes were that way until the C6 came out......the minute I saw a new one I wanted one and have not seen anything to date worthy of replacing it.........

Update on the ten year report
My C6 is up on four jack stands in the garage, and I'm doing the "deep dive" overdue repairs: replacing the harmonic dampener, headlight lenses, fog light lenses, and leaking power steering hose. While I'm in there I may do a replacement sway bar and shocks.
I came very close to buying a C7, but my frugal nature (read: cheap) kicked in, and I decided I liked my C6 and how cheap it is to own.
YMMV

This is a great thread to read! Purchased my '07 1lt at the end of August '14 with 10143 miles. Now I'm sitting a little over 39.6K miles. It's my DD and it's just drives GREAT.
I have done some things to it. such as added a kenwood nav, z51 sways, new endlinks (stock ones were really shot) and z6 shocks as well as corsa sport exhaust. But man is it nice to daily drive. Handles pretty well in the rain also.
I have no idea on how folks get 40K miles on tires on a C6. man. That's pretty sweet but at 20K, I'm probably 5-6K away from needing new rear tires. I have the Mich, PS2 A/S ZPs on there - which have been a very nice tire for me so far.

I DD mine and get great mileage with tires, and even on my Motorcycles, but the average year round heat is less here in NJ.
