Loud ticking and oil pressure drop
Woke up this morning to get some coffee, started my 2007 ls2 made it about 200 yards down the street, and the motor started making a loud ticking noise, I pulled over, shut it off and tried to start it again, it would not start, waited a couple of minutes and it started. I drove it home wich is about three miles from my girlfriends house and noticed the oil pressure
Had dropped a lil bit. Googled some stuff figured maybe collapsed lifter or maybe even spun bearing. I am freaking out any knowledge would help. Thank you.

Did you check the oil level?

Loud ticking noises ain't good usually......did you check to see if its throwing any codes or the ck engine lite is on......how many miles are on it? Is your harmonic balancer wobbling? When you are listening to the engine idle where is the sound coming from.....can you pin it down?
On some LS engines you can have ticking coming from piston slap until the engine warms up........does it go away after it warms up?

Def sounds like a dead lifter.
Lots of ls2's on the gto had these problems.
Don't drive or even run the car without really knowing what happened. But yes pull the covers and check for obvious signs.
You don't wanna damage your CAM.

Would a dead lifter make a hard start? Because off the research I've done it seems like a spun bearing but I wanted some opinions from someone else that has been through this before.

Melting Slicks
It has 80g miles on it, it has been throwing a code but I have the infamous fuel gauge reading problem and though it was from that but never had it verified, and I don't want to drive it to auto zone because I don't want to cause any more damage to it. The harmonic balance is wobbling, what would this mean?

A dead lifter won't make it hard to start but a spun bearing will, which by the sounds of it is what you've got happening.

A broken valve spring could cause starting issues and create a ticking noise because of the extra slack between the valve and rocker arm.
But the engine will also run very rough.
Would highly recommend cutting the oil filter open and examine it for metal flakes, and at that point the spun bearing theory will be very strong.

Took the valve covers off and didn't see anything that I would consider alarming, wasn't too sure what to look for, but everything seemed tight. Is there a way to check for a dead lifter without having to remove the heads?

You can check if a rocker arm is loose, they should all have a pre load, then bump the starter and check again. Do this until you make 2 revolutions. There should not be any slop in the valve train.

When you say low oil pressure, how low did u see? Is the gauge registering any oil pressure? Could be a failed oil pump and the ticking could be lifter noise due to oil pump failure....if that's the case and it won't crank now it's not going to be a favorable ending. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.....keep us posted and good luck.
